News from #E4C 🌍 Energy4Climate (E4C) Center and the Université de la Polynésie française (UPF), supported by the DTER Chair, have successfully completed an installation project known as PVCAM. The aim of this project is to explore innovative approaches to solar energy utilization, with specific objectives including:   📌 Characterizing the performance of photovoltaic modules under real conditions 📌 Quantifying environmental effects such as illumination, temperature, soiling, shading, humidity, and surrounding environment 📌 Developing and applying modeling methods for photovoltaic production 📌 Evaluating and modeling the bifaciality of bifacial PV panels 📌 Comparing panels of the same and different technologies 📌 Modeling photovoltaic production under real conditions 📌 Analyzing I-V characteristic curves of PV panels based on measurement campaigns 📌 Diagnosing module health over an extended period   Executed in collaboration with Jordi Badosa, Johan Parra, Etienne Drahi, Pascal Ortega and utilizing PV panels donated by TotalEnergies Energies, PVCAM marks a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions.   Stay tuned for updates as data from this initiative will soon be available via E4C's Datahub, contributing to ongoing research in the field of renewable energy. What are the challenges and opportunities in designing Renewable Energy Microgrids? University of East London and key partners had the pleasure of hosting Saman A. Gorji, a good friend and ex QUT (Queensland University of Technology) colleague of mine. Saman visited UEL as part of his prestigious CSIRO International Hydrogen Research Fellowship across the UK and EU. He delivered an expansive overview of the future of power grids and insights into interdisciplinary research in renewable energy microgrids, integrating fields such as engineering, science, business, and AI – sharing a vast array of lessons learned. Highlights of his talk included discussions on smart metering, community batteries, and the importance of social licensing for a sustainable future. We also explored how UK-Australia collaborations in academia and industry can drive impactful change toward achieving net-zero goals for future generations. Saman toured UEL’s London Renewable Energy Lab that is being established as an R&D Clean Energy ‘Playground’ – that will become a leading greentech innovation testbed for students and staff, in collaboration with our business and civic partners. 🚀 Productive Session at the SUNSON Exploitation Workshop ❗ We had an incredible and insightful session at the recent SUNSON Internal Exploitation Workshop, where our partners collaborated to align and refine our exploitation strategies. 🎯 During the workshop, we explored our Key Exploitable Results (KERs) and Individual Exploitable Results (IERs), emphasizing the commercial, societal, and scientific potential of our innovations. Understanding these elements is crucial to ensuring that the outcomes of our project have real-world impact—whether through commercialization, further research, or licensing. By leveraging tools like #MURAL, we had an interactive space to collaborate on activities that matter most to our mission: ✔ Identifying target groups and stakeholders 🏢, ✔ Defining a strong business model 💼, and ✔ Conducting competitor analysis, SWOT, and PEST analysis 📊. 📣 Plant DAWN: Construction update 🏗 We’re thrilled to share the latest update on the construction of DAWN, our industrial-scale solar fuel plant. 🌞 The heliostat field at plant DAWN has been installed, ready to focus the sunlight onto the receiver at the top of the tower to generate solar process heat for the production of solar fuels. 💡 The in-house developed heliostats are specially designed to be coupled with our solar receiver to produce solar process heat to drive solar fuel production. 💪 DAWN is our first industrial-scale demonstration plant, located in Jülich, Germany. With DAWN, we demonstrate the viability of the Sun-to-Liquid technology with concentrated solar thermal energy at relevant scale.
