Finding your "best fit" list of colleges is similar to peeling an onion -- removing the layers of characteristics that aren't of interest to you to get to the core of what you're looking for. Visiting the campuses and getting to know the colleges that you are considering is an important part of the college application process. Additionally, "demonstrated interest" can be an influential aspect of the application review process, now that the Common Application has made it so easy to apply to many more schools than you probably actually need to/should. [I recommend 8-10, 12 max.] Make sure to check in with the Admissions Office so that they know that you made the effort to have an official visit to their campus! https://lnkd.in/eMK9pkBX

"Beyond Grades: The Case for Character in College Admissions" Holistic admissions, which considers character alongside academic achievement, is gaining traction as a more comprehensive way to assess applicants. Research consistently shows that traits like resilience, curiosity, empathy, and integrity are strongly linked to success in college and in life. However, traditional admissions criteria, such as grades and test scores, may not fully account for the challenges some students have faced or the unique strengths they possess. By looking at the whole person, admissions officers can gain a more nuanced understanding of an applicant's readiness for college and their potential to contribute to the campus community. Holistic admissions can help identify students who have the character strengths to succeed, even if their academic record doesn't fully reflect their potential. It can also contribute to building more diverse and well-rounded campus communities. Ultimately, moving beyond grades to consider character in college admissions is about aligning our practices with our educational values and recognizing that success requires not just academic skills, but also personal qualities that enable students to learn, grow, and contribute in meaningful ways. The great news: measurement of character traits in students is happening already with aggregated feedback over time in schools. Ask to see a sample 3Dethos.com LooP student report today for a glimpse at a key component in holistic admissions applications of the (very near) future!

Application Tips from a Former Admissions Counselor Highlights -Your student should focus on their college applications in the summer before their senior year. -Waiting until fall can be more chaotic and stressful once school is back in session. -The responsibility is on your student to give everything they needed on the application. -Admissions readers don’t typically have the time to look up or ask for additional information or clarification. -Most admissions readers at large research universities will spend fewer than 10 minutes on your teen’s application. -Your student should take advantage of the Additional Information section to give context for any questions about their application. This is not another essay section and should be answered clearly and concisely. https://buff.ly/45d2jpT

📚 “Are my grades and scores high enough?” It’s a question we often hear from parents and students, especially with TikTok filled with posts of near-perfect GPAs and SAT scores from students who were allegedly accepted. But what students don’t see is the context behind each application—an essential piece that admissions officers prioritize. In our latest blog post, Decoding College Admissions: What Do Officers Really Look for and How Do They Work?, we dive into how admissions teams take a holistic view of each applicant. They don’t just look at numbers; they consider each student’s unique circumstances, opportunities, and challenges. Schools want to know who you are in context: what you’ve achieved given the resources and opportunities you had access to. 🔍 This means it’s important to show what’s distinctively you: your interests, personal growth, and how you’ll contribute to campus life. Grades and scores matter, but colleges are looking for well-rounded applicants who bring depth, resilience, and a commitment to their community. Whether your child is applying this year or preparing for the future, this guide can help you understand the big picture behind holistic admissions. 🌟 Read the full post here and share with anyone asking, “Are my numbers enough?” #CollegeAdmissions #HolisticAdmissions #UniversityApplication

Freshman Co-op Assistant: Admissions Program and Full Support 2024 Freshman Academy's Admissions and Full Support programs require extensive financial and time resources. Therefore, the programs' costs may be an insurmountable barrier for some students. Every year, we have selected a few such students, extending them an opportunity to join the Freshman team as teachers' assistants and social media interns, thus compensating for the program's expenses. Beginning in 2024, we are excited to launch such an assistance for the wider public. The Admissions Program Co-op is an opportunity for students from families who cannot afford the Admissions Program. Due to limited resources, we can only admit one student per cohort. The program will require submitting financial documents and additional interviews. It is entirely need-based, not merit-based.
