WATCH: Stratbase and ADR Institute's Pilipinas Conference 2024, Panelist and Moderator As the Chairman and President of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines, I was honoured to be invited as a panelist and moderator for the Pilipinas Conference 2024, organized by none other than The Stratbase Group and the Stratbase Albert del Rosario Institute. Beginning with Panel Discussion entitled "The Transition to Clean Energy and Green Industries", it was a robust discussion alongside DOE Secretary Popo Lotilla and DENR Secretary Toni Yulo-Loyzaga, to name a few, moderated by Atty. Karen Jimeno. I concluded the event, moderating the CEO Dialogue segment with two highly-respected and distinguished gentlemen in the business industry, Ayala Corporation Chairman, Jaime Augusto Zobel De Ayala, and ACCIONA Infrastructure CEO, Jose Diaz-Caneja. It's these discussions that allow us to propel the local industry forward, as we engage in informative discourse on a plethora of relevant topics. Watch my event highlights here.

🚢 How can Denmark and North America collaborate on developing a green maritime and port industry? This was the main topic during yesterday's panel discussion on our Green Maritime & Port Alliance at the 2024 Port of the Future Conference in Houston. For a full hour, the conference's main stage was dedicated to discussing the Green Maritime & Port Alliance. Joined by Jesper Raakjær of Port of Aalborg and Vesa Koivumaa of Blue Sky Maritime Coalition, our Head of Energy, Morten Siem Lynge, shared challenges with decarbonizing the sector and the pivotal role that ports play in the global maritime industry's energy transition. Ports serve as central load centers between land and sea, possessing the infrastructure and grid connectivity to serve as hubs for green power generation, storage, and distribution. However, unlocking ports' full potential requires public and private collaboration across borders. As leading maritime nations, Denmark and the US share a common commitment to accelerate the green transition of ports. And so, the Green Maritime & Port Alliance seeks to facilitate knowledge-sharing and partnership opportunities between Danish and American maritime companies and ports to create sustainable solutions to joint challenges. By exchanging Danish learnings and solutions with the North American industry during yesterday's panel discussion, we are hopefully one step closer to achieving just that 🤝 If you want to learn more about market opportunities in the global maritime energy transition, do not hesitate to reach out to our Advisor Emil Andersen, or learn more about our Green Maritime & Port Alliance here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d_UEc3Sy #greenshipping #greenmaritime #DenmarkinUSA #WorkingforDenmark

I had a fantastic time at the North Sea Offshore Summit in Berlin last week! The panel discussions were incredibly insightful, and it was a pleasure to connect with key industry players and catch up with my Sweco colleagues Kathrin Glab, Dr Giovanni Spagnoli, and Peter Munk. One topic that stood out to me was the discussion around energy islands ⚡🏝. Despite the current challenges they face in Denmark, energy islands offer numerous benefits. Thomas Paul Koopmann from CIP summarized it perfectly: - Significant cost savings 💰: Hydrogen transport is 80% cheaper than power transport, and large-scale hydrogen production reduces infrastructure unit-cost. - Environmental sustainability 🌊: Hydrogen transport is less invasive, making it a more environmentally friendly option. - Highest energy system efficiency ⚡: Sector coupling helps avoid grid curtailments and enables energy use where it is needed, leading to greater energy system efficiency. - Local job creation and economic growth 👷♂️: The localization of Power-to-X and island jobs and skills leads to local job creation and economic growth. I am excited about the potential of energy islands and the positive impact they can have on the energy industry. Let's continue the conversation and explore how we can contribute to this sustainable future together! #NorthSeaOffshoreSummit #EnergyIslands #Sustainability

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the New England-Canada Business Council Executive Energy Conference. The exceptional slate of speakers did a phenomenal job highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing utilities. Some of the themes that still have my wheels turning: 1️⃣ The challenge and complexity of balancing a focus on reliability, affordability, and sustainability simultaneously. All three legs of this stool are critical - and yet, can often come into conflict with each other. Energy companies need to find ways to build adaptable strategies that move the needle and also acknowledge realistic trade offs. 2️⃣ There’s an immense amount of political uncertainty, across both the US and Canada. While there’s a lot of chatter around federal policies, this uncertainty is driving a need to focus more on “sub-national” strategies. 3️⃣ The power of collaboration. As we grapple with increasing load demands, the need to move toward a clean energy future, more and more severe weather events, and having to upgrade + manage current infrastructure to maintain reliability today - companies can’t do it on their own. Organizations and regions need to work hand-in-hand with each other and First Nations/Native American communities to successfully tackle these challenges. This conference just reaffirmed for me the importance of the research we're doing at Kotter on adaptable organizations. Agility - and more leadership, from more people - is going to be critical for addressing the challenges facing the energy sector. Stay tuned for more soon!
