Great article! Cloud computing costs ended up being 2.5 times higher than what customers expected initially! No wonder that 2023 was the year of ‘cloud optimization’ to try to rein in these sprawling costs. Generative AI is expected to be 3X the cost of cloud computing: How much in the end? Public Cloud might be the ‘Easy Button’ for fast Gen AI deployments, but not the most cost-efficient. Enterprise customers should probably wait until the next wave of Gen AI matures: More Small Language Models than LLMs, hosted on-premises or at the edge, with full control and security. These solutions will be enabled by channel partners who are used to cutting through the hype created by technology vendors, to focus on the real benefits for their customers.
