This September, Atlanta Capital employees donated over 500 toys and art supplies in support of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) Egleston Hospital! These items are often used for distraction during extended wait times, as comfort items after difficult diagnoses and procedures, and during therapeutic activities to make the hospital environment more kid-friendly. We are proud to have played a small part in supporting CHOA's patients and families.

How did Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month sneak up on us? September was another awesome month because of YOU. We held our 12th Healing Hearts support group, fully funded yet another AED enclosure/device that can remain outside 24/7/365, and our engagement tracked 605% higher than our “competitors” on Instagram since our launch. If we’re not connected on IG (https://lnkd.in/egqKWUYz), let’s change that right now. If you’d like to donate to help fund more equipment, visit https://lnkd.in/enhD7aGn. What does your donation to Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) support? We use donations from the optometry community to provide grants to partner organizations for projects that address preventable blindness and vision impairment around the world. We fund projects that provide free- and low-cost vision exams and eyeglasses to meet the immediate need in areas where there is little to no access to eyecare. But we are also investing in long-term solutions by helping establish optometry schools in these areas, so that there are more optometrists available in underserved areas of the world. During the last year alone, OGS has funded 21 vision projects with 19 implementation partners. We’ve awarded over $930,000 in grants, and impacted more than 1.5 million individuals globally. Help us give the gift of sight to those in need. givingsight.org/donate

In the journey of stroke recovery, timing is everything. As emphasized by Dr. Andrew Dawson, starting rehabilitation early can significantly influence the outcome. The period following a stroke holds a window of opportunity that when seized, can lead to remarkable strides in regaining independence and function for the stroke survivors. Recovery is not just a possibility; it's a priority. With the right support, the path to regaining strength and living a normal life is within reach. At Delta Stroke Recovery, we work together with our stroke survivors from day one to ensure we can help them navigate recovery as successfully as possible. For more information on how we can help, reach out to us or check out our website for resources and ways to donate. https://buff.ly/45Sy1J1 #StrokeRecovery #EarlyRehabilitation #Independence #SupportStrokeSurvivors #HealthAwareness

Happy Holidays everyone! It's the Season of Giving! My name is Hernan Picalomino and I am a Shriner, and the Shriners Hospital for Children holds dear to me. This Season of Giving, I am raising $10,000 toward the Wheelchair and Seating Program. If funds were raised, Shriners Children’s Philadelphia would be able to assist more children in acquiring necessary repairs to their wheelchairs. This increase in general medical care will greatly benefit the patients we treat by expanding the available continuum of care and improving the quality of life for children and adolescents. The following describes the challenges faced when a child’s wheelchair is not functioning properly. Sharing some of the cost of the program: Pressure relieving seat cushions - $400.00/cushion Replacement back cushions or grow chairs - $275.00/cushion Growth kit to make the chair wider - $150.00/kit Sets of batteries (2 needed per chair) - $250.00/chair

Rural Referral Centers Make My Head Explode, Too, Adam Fein I feel Adam’s pain. You can’t make this stuff up. #340b discounts go to “rural referral centers”, but RRCs don’t actually have to be located in “rural” counties—or receive any significant referrals from rural areas. Adam points out the absurdity of this by noting that Brigham&Women’s, Boston’s grand dame, had a whopping “97% of 2021 patients resid[ing] in urban areas”—I’ll just also add that it had $18.8 billion in revenues in 2023. In life, you get what you pay for. In the law, you get what you set as the standard. The Standard: The relevant regulation assesses referrals by analyzing the % of “Medicare patients…referred from other hospitals or from physicians not on…staff” and the % of the “hospital's Medicare patients [who] live more than 25 miles from the hospital”. Can you see the problem? It’s right there—hard-wired into the “Rural” Referral Center definition. The regulatory standard just requires referrals. It doesn’t require ANY referrals FROM a RURAL area. Worse yet is the idea of judging relevant referrals based on a 25 mile radius. The Medicare definition of ANY hospital’s CORE service area for determining provider-based status is 35 miles. So, in other words, a “rural” referral center that is actually an urban facility can meet the “rural” referral criteria by securing ALL of its referrals from WITHIN its OWN service area. Even More Absurd: The same hospital can SIMULTANEOUSLY be a RRC for 340B purposes and an URBAN hospital for Medicare wage index purposes. Because THAT makes sense. Reasons for Concern: And it’s not just Brigham, of course. The BRG study ihughlights that there was about an 80% increase in RRC 340B purchases, each year, from the end of 2017 to 2022. That rate of growth was TWICE the already outrageous rate of growth of the program as a whole. So, here’s a novel idea, how about we rewrite the RRC definition to actually require a substantial number of referrals from the 80% of the US actually classified as being “rural”? Or is that too rational for this program? #340b #ruralheathcare #rrc Berkeley Research Group Brigham and Women's Hospital
Seriously?!? #BecauseOf340B, Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston (!) is a "rural" referral center for #340B cash—yet 97% of its patients live in urban areas! Another large, non-profit #hospital abusing #340B & risking program for true safety-net providers Berkeley Research Group ==>https://drugch.nl/3J8ChJY

🌟Help Save the Sight of Underprivileged Babies in Rural Vietnam!🌟 Imagine being a parent in rural Vietnam, unable to afford the costly and lengthy journey to urban centers where specialized medical care is available. Many families face this reality, leaving their premature infants at risk of blindness due to Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a condition that can be prevented with early detection and treatment. Your donations will enable us to purchase two essential digital retinal cameras, allowing us to screen and treat these vulnerable infants right where they live. By specifying “ROP CAMERA DONATION,” you ensure your support goes directly to this life-saving cause. Together, we can give these tiny fighters a brighter, clearer future. Your generosity can make a real difference. 💖 Donate now and be the light in their darkness. https://lnkd.in/gHDVaaZP #SaveVision #UnderprivilegedBabies #RuralVietnam #Charity #DonateNow #ROPproject #GiveSight

Recognize a Stroke with FAST: F - Face: Is it drooping on one side? A - Arms: Can the person raise both arms, or is one arm weak? S - Speech: Is speech slurred or strange? T - Time: If you observe any of these signs, call 9-1-1 immediately. Knowing these signs and acting quickly can make a critical difference in stroke outcomes. Share this information with your colleagues, friends, and family to help raise awareness and potentially save lives. You can also support our participation in the Ride for Heart by donating. The 2025 legislative season may be far away, but our initiatives and message are being planned year-round. The hard part is getting those talking points into a room with the people who can make that difference. The Rx Care PAC is fully donation-funded, and "getting in the room" costs money.
