Last night, our SVP Discovery Sciences, Steve Rees OBE, joined The Royal Society and representatives from the Liverpool City Region to discuss the importance of public investment, the role for research in society, and the application of emerging technologies in R&D & innovation in the UK. 🔬 At AstraZeneca we support the UK’s ambition to be globally competitive on science. We believe the importance of public R&D spending to the attractiveness of the UK as a place to invest cannot be underestimated. 🌐 Beyond investment, the UK also needs to enable a collaborative ecosystem for R&D, based on regional strengths and related to national priorities to help address regional disparities, foster localised innovation, and increase engagement. 💻 AI and emerging technologies are transforming R&D and allowing us to turn science into medicine more quickly and with a higher probability of success. Principles for the responsible, ethical and transparent use of these technologies are essential. These three areas are crucial, not only to the attractiveness of the UK as a place to invest but to the work we do to further scientific discovery. We look forward to continuing to work with partners like The Royal Society to deliver on these ambitions.
