Post-harvest losses are at an all-time high and have surpassed statistical estimates in recent years. If we ignore it, we will face serious food shortages and rising food prices across the country. As a matter of urgency, government and private stakeholders should prioritize promoting sustainable agricultural practices, equipping and empowering small and large-scale farmers, integrating technology, establishing modular warehousing, improving the agricultural value chain by providing efficient supply chain processes to reduce post-harvest losses, and facilitating farmers' seamless market access. Expected Impact: Enhance agricultural productivity and farmer incomes. Improve food security and nutrition. Promote sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices. Foster economic growth and resilience in the agricultural sector. HAPAGRO LTD. aims to make this a reality. #foodsecurity #sustainability #Hapagroltd #Agric #supplychain #warehousing
Nigeria’s agricultural sector faces a challenge of post-harvest losses exceeding 50%. This staggering figure significantly undermines both food security and agricultural productivity. Speaking in an exclusive interview with AgroNigeria, Mr. Nicolas Trentesaux, Managing Director of SIAL Network in France, underscored the urgency of addressing this pressing issue through international collaboration. He said, “When discussing Africa, our focus lies on mitigating post-harvest losses.” The Managing Director stressed the importance of Nigeria engaging in knowledge exchange with global counterparts to enhance food transformation and agricultural practices. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, emphasized the need to deploy public relations mechanisms to shift negative perceptions about agriculture in Nigeria to attack investments, stating that it’s essential to remove obstacles making agricultural practice less desirable and contribute to the country’s food crisis. At the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations’ annual colloquium in Abeokuta, Abiodun noted, “When we hear ‘public relations,’ many think of media campaigns and press releases. But in the context of our food crisis, public relations is far more than just communication. It’s about building bridges — between the government and the private sector, between investors and farmers, and between policymakers and the Nigerian people.” Abiodun highlighted his administration’s support for over 12,000 farmers with farming inputs and mechanization of 4,000 hectares of land. Hey! What will you be doing in your 80s? I asked myself this life-changing question 7 days ago when had the honour to deliver the 7th Public Lecture commemorating the 81st birthday of His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Ojugbele, the Onilogbo of Ilogbo-Asowo, Aworiland, Ogun State. Before the commencement of the program, I had a kind of father and son discussion when he was sharing his investment and engagement in agriculture. He was also planning to take a short course in agribusiness. So, I kept telling myself, o boy, you have a long way to go. He is in 80s while I am in my 40s. The amazing thing is that Oba Samuel Ojugbele studied LAW not agriculture; yet he is making remarkable impact in the sector. The message is that with burning passion and commitment, you can get something remarkable done in your given area of interest. Thus, age should not be a barrier but a thing of the mind. A wise man has said, 'if you keep learning, you are young (whether at 80 or 20) but if you stop learning, you are old, whether at 20 or 80' No matter our achievement and accomplishment, we should keep pressing towards advancement and more fulfilment. $Action: Let's use the comment to answer the question: $What will I be doing in my 80s? My lecture focused on "Sailing the Nigerian Economy out of Limbo via Agricultural Cardinal Points". Highlights are the embedded video while details are online via https://lnkd.in/d8tzAt84. Let's I forget, the registration for ASMN Premium Membership is still on. The Trade Hub is boosting private sector productivity and competitiveness in West Africa by providing co-investment grants to companies like De Heus Cote d'Ivoire.
A new animal feed mill in Côte d’Ivoire is transforming the lives of small-scale producers like Awa Kaboré. Facing challenges in accessing high-quality feed, these farmers are now able to meet market demands, thanks to increased production and employment opportunities provided by the mill, a partner of the USAID West Africa Trade & Investment Hub. The Trade Hub aims to enhance private sector productivity and competitiveness in West Africa, fostering job creation and trade expansion within the region and with the United States. https://bit.ly/4bnQ0ss

🌍 In Kamuli District, Uganda, we’re supporting a community-led project aimed at reducing schistosomiasis (SCH) risk and improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in three communities with high SCH prevalence. ⚠️ Contaminated surface water has been identified by these communities as a major driver of SCH. To address this, the project will implement an innovative water supply system: a gravity-diverted membrane filtration (GDM) system, which greatly improves water purity. 🚰 The GDM system filters water using gravity pressure and ultrafiltration membranes with pore sizes of 20-40 nanometers. It operates without electricity, chemicals, or replacement parts and requires just simple monthly maintenance, making it perfect for remote areas and easy for communities to manage. 🌊Discover more about how GDM filtration works: https://ow.ly/vAbM50Tajhe
