A nice concise appraisal of Climate Majority Project. Answering the question “what can I do about the crisis?” from a personal perspective I grow food to give to those in most need through a project I like to call Feed The Need. 😊🙏
Climate change. It's happening and it's bad. But what can I do about it? Introducing the Climate Majority Project. Brainchild of Rupert Read, formerly of XR, this is a 'citizen first' movement striving to get a majority of the population, not willing to glue themselves to buildings, to take the action that makes most sense to them, where they are on their climate journey. It has four central beliefs: 1) Let's learn about the climate crisis and agree just how bad things are. 2) Let's provide a support network for people waking up to point 1). 3) Everyone can do something to make a difference. Let's work out what your 'thing' is. 4) Be part of a community that shares and learns from each other. The additional hope is that the government will listen to a majority of the people (anything for votes), and finally do something about it. The manifesto is linked below - highly recommended for those seeking an answer to the question: but what can I do to help? #ClimateCrisis #ClimateMajorityProject

Interesting article quoting Todd Stern, who served as a special envoy for climate change under Barack Obama, on how some political leaders are slowing the pace of climate action. I think political will and moral responsibility are so critical to protecting people and planet against present and future disaster risks. We can make a fast transition when there is a strong political will. Political leaders demonstrated this when they took swift action to prevent the spread of Covid-19, but they are yet to apply this lesson to take similar action to tackle the climate and biodiversity loss crises. The longer we wait, the worse it will get! The world needs leaders who respect scientific evidence and act to ensure equitable transition towards a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future. The security of our changing world depends on addressing the interconnection between climate change, hunger, poverty, sustainable development and peace.

The Canadian government has released For Our Future: Indigenous Resilience Report, an assessment rooted in Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and experiences. The report is a component of Canada in a Changing Climate: Advancing our Knowledge for Action. This national initiative focuses on understanding climate change’s effects on Canadian communities and ecosystems. Leveraging Indigenous Knowledge Systems, the report highlights the disproportionate impacts that First Nations, Inuit, and Métis face and underscores their unique strengths in adaptation. It advocates for integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems into all climate actions, establishing that Indigenous-led initiatives are crucial for self-determination and a sustainable future.

Here's a critically important report from Canada highlighting the role and experience of indigenous people and traditional knowledge in facing and dealing with the effects of climate change. As the western world faces up to the fact that we live in a pluriverse of perspectives (thanks Sahana Chattopadhyay for your excellent input) and no longer can for any one assume dominance, indigenous voices are now thankfully, but slowly, being heard and listened to. May this trend accelerate. Highly relevant to the work being done by Regenerative Vanua, plus Regina Scheyvens and Apisalome Movono and many others in the Pacific.

Taking Back Control: Why climate action needs devolution Christopher Hammond, UK100 chief executive and former council leader, argues that devolution is essential for tackling climate change. Today, local leaders across the country will be awaiting the first King's Speech of the new government with bated breath. Eyes will be trained on the long-promised Take Back Control Bill. It has the potential to be the catalyst for a reset in the relationship between local and national government; a relationship that has fractured almost to the point of breaking in recent times. Nowhere is that reset more necessary than in the area of climate action. Read on at https://lnkd.in/evAmB_bB
