Witan held its 116th Annual General Meeting and celebrated the centenary of its listing on the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday 1st May. You can view the full AGM video on our website, during which Witan’s CEO, Andrew Bell, discusses the fund’s strategy, performance and portfolio in 2023, as well as providing an update on the managers and our ESG policy. An insightful Q&A session followed the presentation, which included comment regarding Andrew’s retirement this year, and the current review of Witan’s investment management arrangements by the Board. Watch the video here https://lnkd.in/edvv7Tp5 Issued and approved by Witan Investment Services FRN:446227 on 10 May 2024. It was amazing to reconnect with old friends and make some new friendships at the Fiduciary Investors Symposium hosted by Top1000funds.com in Toronto last week. The discussion started with the pros and cons of the “Canadian pension model”, outsourcing vs. insourcing, moving to the Total Portfolio Approach and Energy Transition where I had the privilege to contribute with some insights from the three decades of IFM Investors' experience investing in critical infrastructure around the world. It was a pleasure to share the stage with Rossitsa Stoyanova, Chief Investment Officer of Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO), Peter Martin Larsen, head of private markets at University Pension Plan Ontario, and David Bell, Executive Director at The Conexus Institute. There were certainly lots of nuances in our respective investment approaches but no disagreement about the investment opportunity that energy transition presents to pension funds and that lots of these opportunities could be explored effectively within the current definition of fiduciary duty. I got the opportunity to wrap up the discussion on my favourite topic of the benefits of collective action by pension funds, which was the genesis of IFM’s creation by Australian super funds, and also how public private partnerships could unlock the flow of private capital into new investment opportunities in energy transition, something that we are currently actively exploring via our Energy Transition Blueprint work in Australia and the Memorandum of Understanding with the Department for Business and Trade in the UK. You could check out the Energy Transition Blueprint work in Australia in the link below: (https://lnkd.in/gNdVkczU) The quality of thinking at the Fiduciary Investors Symposium was second to none so if you are in the C-suite of a large asset owner and looking to gain some insights from your peers, I would encourage you to join the network. The next symposium is in Stanford, September 14-18. Looking forward to seeing you there. Our Chief Strategy Officer, Luba Nikulina participated on a panel discussion at the Fiduciary Investor Symposium this week in Toronto on how private assets may help investors reach net zero targets along with panelists Rossitsa Stoyanova, Chief Investment Officer, Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO) and Peter Martin Larsen, Senior managing director, head of private markets, University Pension Plan of Ontario, moderated by David Bell, Executive director, The Conexus Institute. The discussion highlighted the need for investors to be flexible and ready to make room in their portfolios for when the right investment opportunities arise such as new technologies that inherently may have more risk. IFM, as an owner and operator of essential infrastructure assets, believes that embracing the global energy transition and adapting for the future could create a myriad of opportunities for investors today. #EnergyTransition #InfrastructureInvesting #NetZeroTargets #SustainableInvesting #IFMInvestors

Data from Preqin's Private Capital in DACH 2024 report that launched today shows the number of private fund managers in the region has hit a record high, at almost 2,200, as Levin Stamm reports for Bloomberg. Now, Germany's Mittelstand is key to future DACH private markets growth according to David Dawkins, the report author: "The question of how fund managers navigate the Mittelstand's intricacies is yet to be answered. That said, attitudes are changing as a younger generation of owners take the reins".
