I have been learning & implementing SEO for my SaaS for a while. And let me tell you, till date i have found SEO to be the most stable and sustainable channel of growth If you have even 2000/m visits to your website with a 1% conversion rate, you get 20 people trying out your product/ service. That's pretty decent as compared to social channels, where you definitely need a post to go viral to attract a million impressions but most of which will be top of the funnel. To attract high intent users to your product, you need to create content more on the middle and bottom of the funnel. 5 reasons why SEO doesn't "work" for some SaaS companies Here are 5 reasons SEO might not be working for your SaaS brand, based on my experience leading SaaS SEO strategies: 1. You're not alighting your SEO strategy with your product: -Features can be turned into "how to queries" -BoFu topics can be "niched" down for specific use cases based on your product -ICP-based supporting content around concepts and decision making queries (pros and cons, benefits, etc should support the "sign up" drivers) 2. You're not mention your product in the content: -Product involvement is what turns mere clicks to conversions. -Make sure to show how your product can help the reader do X. 3. You're over-mentioning your product: -You don't have to mention every feature in your content. -You don't even have to mention your product's features in every piece. 4. You are blindly copying competitors: -Because a competitor did something, doesn't mean it will work for you as well. -Different website --> Different traits -Get inspired by your competitors' SEO, but don't actually copy it. 5. Your content is not what it should be: - We are in 2024 (2025 soon), adding a couple of "keywords" in your H2's won't do it anymore. - Mention more information and connect more topic-relevant concepts than your competition. - Serve information in a logical hierarchy. - Include subtopics your competitors didn't. - Skip the fluff. Both users and search engines hate it. - Add helpful elements in your article. SEO with and without purpose. I talk to SaaS founders and exces almost daily. And I talk and work on SEO, even after my work hours. But I always see a disconnect. There is no strategy or purpose behind most SEO. It all boils down to; ➡ Create more content  ➡ Build more links 🔄 Repeat Okay, I get it. Yes, the above is the core part of SEO, but it can all fall apart without a clear purpose or strategy. Just as an example in this image. A bus chassis will operate/work almost the same as a regular bus. But it won’t serve any purpose. Like your purposeless SEO strategy. Forget about; ⛔ DA/DR ⛔ Traffic ⛔ Rankings ⛔ Content But how do all of the above collectively fulfill your purpose. ✅ It is time to align your Product Positioning with SEO Positioning. And it's definitely the time to stop writing “good content” and building “ fancy backlinks” that don’t pay the bills.

For such a long time, SaaS companies were so afraid to mention their direct competitors in their content. Even still, I come across clients who shake in their boots at the thought. Let's talk about this for a second. Doing all the SEO research, coming up with creative descriptions, formatting your blog article to make it look incredible, and internally linking the heck out of it all means little to nothing if it lacks relevancy. If a reader is looking up "Best X Tools", they're looking for a list of your competitors. Not just your name at the top followed by a bunch of names that if they squint their eyes and tilt their head could maybe sort of do the same thing. The more transparent you are, the more trust, authority, and relevancy you build. Let your SaaS do the talking.
