This year, ASEF has continued to demonstrate our commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by highlighting the role of primary health care (PHC) in Asian and European member countries. We believe that a sustainable #UHC would not only enable citizens to access health services but also protect them from financial hardships. And as we commemorate UHC Day on this day, 12th December, we are also reminded that "Health: It’s on the government!" – this year's #UHCDay2024 theme. By way of a whole-of-society (WoS) approach, investing in a sustainable UHC boosts a country's economy by improving people's health, encouraging more people to work, increasing productivity, and making individuals, families, and communities more resilient. Hence, UHC leads to a fairer society with stronger social bonds. 🔸 People with lived health experiences are more than just recipients of care; they are the heart and soul of the #IEEPO community. Let's celebrate their invaluable role in shaping the Universal Health Coverage (#UHC) movement! 💪💙 🔸 UHC is not only crucial for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 - ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages - but also requires a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach. This approach was recognized and emphasized at the UN High-Level Meeting on UHC in 2020. 🌐🤝 🔸 As we strive to build a healthier world, the voices of patients are essential. Their lived health experiences provide unique insights that complement the perspectives of all stakeholders involved in the global UHC movement. 🌍🗣️ Let's come together and recognise the invaluable contributions of people with lived health experiences in shaping UHC policies and decision-making. Together, we can achieve a future where quality healthcare is accessible and equitable for everyone! 💙

Happy International Universal Health Coverage #UHCDay! Today I celebrate the amazing advocates around the world who are leading the fight to achieve #healthforall and to ensure that no one is left behind on the road to #UHC, especially my colleagues in the CSEM for UHC2030 - The Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC. The statistics on the lack of progress on achieving UHC are not something to celebrate. Today the world is no closer to achieving UHC than in 2015, when governments adopted the #SDGs. More than half the world's population lacks access to essential health services and more than 2 billion people face financial hardship from out-of-pocket costs to access the health care they need. This UHC Day, and every day, we are calling on governments and all stakeholders to make urgently needed investments in primary health care #PHC, the most equitable and inclusive way to achieve #UHC. We all likely know someone who has had to make the difficult choice between accessing health care and paying for food, housing, or education. Join us in raising your voice to change this reality! https://csemonline.net/ UHC2030 - Taking action for universal health coverage Management Sciences for Health

Guess what? It's Day 2 of our campaign awareness about Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and today we are discussing the benefits of UHC. Universal Health Coverage (UHC) ensures that everyone can access essential healthcare services without financial hardship, promoting health equity and reducing disparities in healthcare access. This inclusivity guarantees that no one is left behind. A significant advantage of UHC is financial protection, preventing individuals and families from falling into poverty due to out-of-pocket medical expenses, thus promoting financial stability. UHC leads to improved health outcomes by providing timely and appropriate care, reducing the burden of diseases, and enhancing overall well-being. A healthier population contributes to economic growth by improving productivity and reducing illness-related absenteeism. UHC fosters social cohesion and trust in the healthcare system, strengthening community bonds and promoting solidarity. By emphasizing preventive care, UHC reduces the incidence of preventable diseases, lowering long-term healthcare costs. UHC also supports sustainable development by contributing to numerous Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring healthy lives, and promoting well-being for all ages. In summary, UHC creates a fair, equitable healthcare system, protects individuals financially, improves health outcomes, fosters economic growth, strengthens social cohesion, and supports sustainable development. #VIP #YPPH #UHC #The Academy of Public Health

Creating a compelling case for the UK government's return to 0.7% and prioritizing health – Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) participated at the Liberal Democrats in Development (LDID) Conference side event, supported by Coalition for Global Prosperity this weekend. THET’s CEO Ben Simms chaired, and our wonderful trustee and wearer of many hats Dr. Titilola Banjoko shared from her experience across NHS and global health. Thank you to panelists Calum Miller MP for your backing on this important issue, and Saoirse Fitzpatrick STOPAIDS: Uniting UK Voices on the Global Response and Zoe Swanwick Coalition for Global Prosperity for their great contributions. Some key points I took away: - We cannot ignore shortages and heightening pressures on health workforce in UK and elsewhere, the impact of health emergences and climate change, the interdependencies between systems, how debt and structural adjustment affect health investment domestically in LMICs - How this inequity and injustice causes such loss of life and suffering, lack of prosperity - The importance of strengthening the global health architecture, including The Global Fund, GAVI, and the WHO for saving lives and promoting the right to health, building on successes - The critical role of policy leadership from the UK, not siloed, and how the NHS model should be shared and applauded Thank you to Myles Wickstead and LDID #HealTogether #SDGs #UHC #Globalhealth #GlobalHealthPartnerships
