Electric Air Taxi's to dominate Indian Urban skies? Boon or a ban? The IIT Madras incubated start-up ePlane as well as InterGlobe Enterprises (Indigo's parent company) are planning to introduce eVTOL's (electric Vertical Take-off & Landing aircrafts) for Indian city skies offering an alternative to driving through congested city roads. How about getting from Cannaught Place to Gurugram in 7 minutes? Definitely an interesting space to watch how things unfold including safety and regulatory aspects in the next 2-3 years. #innovation #cleantech #electric

An Indian startup based in Chennai is pioneering an ambitious project to develop electric aircraft, aimed at revolutionizing air travel within cities. The ePlane Company, spearheaded by founder and CEO Satya Chakravarthi, is set to unveil electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, promising swift and efficient transportation solutions. Scheduled to commence from March 2025, the research and development efforts at the ePlane Company are focused on designing eVTOL aircraft capable of accommodating four passengers, in addition to the pilot. Unlike conventional vehicles that often endure hour-long commutes, these electric aircraft are projected to cut down travel time significantly, with journeys taking as little as 14 minutes to reach their destination. The vision behind the ePlane Company's endeavor is not only to introduce electric air taxis but also to alleviate congestion in urban areas, particularly within cities like Chennai. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the startup aims to offer commuters a faster, more sustainable mode of transportation, ultimately easing the strain on existing infrastructure. #ElectricAircraft #UrbanMobility #TheePlaneCompany #Innovation #Transportation #SustainableTravel #FutureTech

This is India’s first startup to build electric air taxi prototype! This electric air taxi will only take 14 minutes to reach a place that will take 60 minutes by a personal vehicle. Chennai startup The ePlane Company is building a certifiable prototype by March 2025. Incubated out of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, the startup aims to commercialize drones in 2024 which can carry a load of 2-6 kgs to 50 kgs while flying up to 60 kms. According to the Founder Satya Chakravarthy, they are in the process of building an eVTOL (Electric Vehicle Takeoff and Landing) aircraft to start with. This eVTOL will be a 3 to 4-seater plane that can be converted to air ambulance. These electric air taxis offer faster intra-city travel without a massive ground infrastructure and reduce noise, congestion, and emissions. After it passes safety and regulatory concerns, it would be surely a key to regular and faster transportation in the next 5 to 10 years. On the other hand, IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) parent firm and Archer Aviation are also in a plan to launch electric air taxi services in India by 2026. I am really proud to see startups from my city Chennai achieving new heights!😊 What do you think about this innovation? Will it be a revolutionary change? #startup #innovation #india #technology #logistics

Startup Advice. As another air taxi company goes under, it reminds me of the late great Clayton Christensen's method to simplify down to the 'job to be done'. Do this, even harshly, and then look at the earliest product-market(job) fit, and work out who will pay the premium. People 'hire' capability. On the innovation scale of functionality, security, convenience and cost, they're at the top. Thats why were not really sure what to do with them. They integrate other technologies in a new way. Air taxis are a low tech, low emission way to rapidely move goods or people short range. Big drones basically, big enough that the payload to aero efficiency and range works out (even a classic 5inch or X Class has utility # betaflight # inav # ardupilot. Who cares and why? and enough to pay a significant premium? is THE question. (and then why your solution, of course). The competition are helicopter, bike couriers, blue lights. Public seeking slightly faster shorter commuting? Last mile delivery to the top of blocks of flats? Emergency services? Hopefully some useful ip came out in stability and power trains and battery management, maybe some dead reckoning. But seemingly technology push, for now.
