The Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved the PM Electric Drive Revolution (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, aimed at accelerating the adoption of EVs in the country.
Total Scheme Outlay: ₹10,900 crores over two years
Detailed Breakdown:
1. ₹8,000 crores for Demand Incentives:
a. 10 lakh electric two-wheelers (₹3,500 crores)
b. 5 lakh electric three-wheelers (₹2,000 crores)
c. 50,000 electric buses (₹2,000 crores)
d. ₹500 crores for emerging EV segments like electric ambulances and trucks
e. ₹1,000 crores allocated to the Vehicle Scrapping Program:
2. Incentives for scrapping old trucks to encourage adoption of electric trucks, aimed at significantly reducing pollution from heavy-duty vehicles.
a. Buyers with vehicle scrapping certificates will receive extra incentives.
3. ₹500 crores for deploying Electric Ambulances:
a. To introduce e-ambulances for patient transport in public and private sectors, focusing on green healthcare mobility.
4. ₹600 crores for expanding EV Charging Infrastructure:
a.Installation of 1,500 fast chargers in cities with high EV penetration and along key highways.
b. 100 fast chargers specifically for electric buses.
c. 400 fast chargers dedicated to electric two-wheelers and cars.
4. ₹800 crores for upgrading Vehicle Testing Agencies:
a. Upgraded facilities will ensure vehicles meet global safety standards and boost domestic manufacturing under the Phased Manufacturing Program (PMP).
5. ₹1,000 crores for Public Transport Agencies:
a. Funding to help State Transport Undertakings (STUs) procure electric buses.
b. Demand aggregation across major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore, Pune, and Hyderabad .
Additionally PM E- Bus Sewa scheme will facilitate the deployment of over 38,000 electric buses (e-Buses) between FY 2024-25 and FY 2028-29, with support for their operation extending up to 12 years from the date of deployment.
