This is the story of an Olympics gold medalist who turned herself into an entrepreneur.🎯 2. Despite the challenges of entering the world of entrepreneurship, which was different from her athletic career, she took a leap of faith and embarked on a new chapter. 🎬 3. Meet Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, a retired athlete and three-time world heptathlon champion in 2009, 2011, and 2015. 🏆 4. After the 2016 Olympics, she announced her retirement from sports, but upon retiring, she wondered, "What’s next?"🤔 5. She looked back and realized that her success in balancing motherhood and a thriving #athletic career was because of a strong support system, including her coach and other specialists.⏩ 6. With their support, she returned to competition and won a world championship just a year after giving birth.⏩ 7. This realization led Ennis to think deeply about the struggles that many women face challenges of exercising during pregnancy and postpartum.❗ 8. She felt a strong desire to create a resource that would support women at every stage—whether they’re generally trying to stay fit, pregnant, or recovering postnatally.✅ 9. In 2019, she and her co-founder, Jane C., launched Jennis, a UK based women’s hormonal health app that offers guidance on training, diet, and sleep, empowering women to understand their bodies and hormones better.✅ 10. Starting a company – thoughts from one repeat founder 🔂💥 Building a company from scratch is a transformative experience. For me it is about the magic 🪄 of creating, breathing life into a project, and, hopefully, positively impacting lives. Despite the sacrifices in sleep, relationships, hobbies, and peace of mind, I feel compelled to do it. With over 7 years of being a founder in art and later in healthtech, I've faced extreme mental and emotional pressure. The journey has taught me valuable lessons, some of which were quite painful. The crucial lesson for me was underestimating the importance of having a close-knit community of trusted founders. Trust takes time to develop, especially amid the chaos of running a business and balancing personal life. Reflecting back, I realize the necessity of allocating more time to develop such a community. As a founder, there comes a point where external support becomes crucial. Confiding in employees, investors, or clients can be risky. Vulnerability, especially for female founders, may not be the best publicized trait. If I had a community of female founders who I relate to, trust, and respect, I would have achieved more efficiently, with less pain endured. While friends and partners offer support, they don't necessarily have enough context and experience with what I was going through.    Building a community with experienced female founders is key for preparing for the next entrepreneurial endeavor. Yesterday, Flo Health Inc., a male founded and funded app, became the first women's health company to achieve unicorn status. In 2024, women's health remains predominantly controlled by men. Who are supposed to advocate for better health outcomes for women? The VC ecosystem for women and other underrepresented founders is broken. The chart below says it all. there's been a lot of discussion of Flo Health Inc. reaching unicorn status this week both good and bad. on one hand it's absolutely incredible to see a femtech and women's health company raise 200M in funding, on the other hand, it brings to light the vast discrepancy in what female founders are raising for similar products in the same vertical. outside of 2023, female founders historically raise 1/4 of the funding that their male counterparts raise, in women's health. in other words, women building health products for women will raise 75% less funds than men building health products for women. as much as i think the landscape needs to be balanced, this is clearly not balanced. in a time where women's health is finally coming to the forefront, we need to fund the women building in this space more than ever. there are no better advocates for health, safety and well-being in this space then the women experiencing it themselves. thank you Ruffin Mitchener for calling this out. we need to do better.

The shift from the corporate world to entrepreneurship is quite the adventure, especially as a woman. You carry a wealth of skills and experiences forged in a predominantly masculine environment, & these assets will undoubtedly serve you well on this new path.
