So the REAL question is: What positive, tangible outcomes have you produced, for Black people/Black women, while professing to be anti-racist, an ally, etc.? Show us your receipts. Less talk. More action. Less virtue signaling. More paying Black women for our labor and our contributions. Don’t talk about it, BE about it! Today, we recognize International Day of the Girl—a global moment to affirm girls' human rights and celebrate their power worldwide. 🌐 At Panorama Strategy, we’re proud to partner with leaders committed to creating a world where girls are safe and have the ability to live out their full potential. On this day, we want to highlight critical issues impacting girls around the world and celebrate some of the organizations working tirelessly to address them. ▪ Access to Education: Nearly 120 million girls worldwide are out of school due to factors like child labor, discrimination, and inadequate access to education. The Malala Fund is equipping a new generation of education activists, investing in girls and local organizations as they break through barriers and advocate for lasting change. ▪ Child Marriage: Each year, more than 12 million girls under 18 marry in legal and traditional ceremonies, violating their human rights and severely limiting their educational and economic opportunities. Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage brings together 1,400+ civil society organizations to exchange learnings, raise awareness, and mobilize the financial and political support needed around the world to end child marriage.   ▪ Representation: As of 2023, only about 26% of parliamentary seats globally are held by female representatives, highlighting significant underrepresentation in political decision-making. Running Start empowers young women with the confidence, skills, and networks they need to run for office through initiatives such as their leadership summit for women from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.   ▪ Childhood Sexual Violence: One in nine girls under 18 experience childhood sexual assault and abuse. The ToZero initiative, funded by the Oak Foundation, The Indigo Trust, and Phillips Foundation, is uniting stakeholders worldwide to create a path toward ending childhood sexual violence. ▪ Mental Health and Wellbeing: Girls are 2.5 times more likely than boys to experience depression and anxiety during adolescence, often due to factors like social media influence and gender-based expectations. Black Girls Smile Inc. has supported more than 10,000 Black women and girls through their mental health literacy programming, intersectionality workshops, and their therapy scholarship program. To tackle these pressing issues, we need the collective strength of our global community. We will highlight common issues that affect Black women in life, education, and the workplace. We are seeking to start a conversation about breaking down the stigma, stereotypes, and systemic oppression of Black Women, trusting Black women as experts, empowering Black women, centering Black women, uplifting Black Women, and acknowledging the full experience of Black women. This session is a reminder that investing in Black women is a human right and a key to building just, equitable, and inclusive spaces. When we inspire others to understand and value Black women, we create space to be inclusive, relevant, and empowering where there’s a sense of belonging. When we advocate for Black women and stand by Black women, we are also making space and advocating for other oppressed people or groups. When we invest in Black women, we accelerate progress. This crucial conversation is a call to action to support Black women and Black women-led initiatives and projects to drive social and economic progress—to accelerate progress. 🌍 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence: Day 6 Day 6: The Weight of Microaggressions As a Black woman, I know firsthand that violence isn’t always physical or overt—it often exists in subtle, pervasive ways that chip away at our sense of safety and self. These are the everyday microaggressions that women of color face: the “compliments” that diminish, the assumptions that stereotype, the silences that invalidate. Microaggressions are often dismissed as harmless, but their cumulative impact is far from benign. They are a constant reminder of systemic inequities, forcing women of color to navigate spaces with a heightened awareness of how we’re seen—and treated. The reality of microaggressions: • “You’re so articulate” implies surprise at competence, rooted in bias. • “Where are you really from?” dismisses our belonging and identity. • Being labeled “angry” or “aggressive” when asserting boundaries silences our voices and perpetuates harmful stereotypes. For Black women and other women of color, microaggressions add an invisible layer of violence to our everyday experiences, affecting our mental health, professional growth, and sense of self-worth. What needs to change? • Acknowledgment: Understand that microaggressions are rooted in systemic racism and sexism—they are not “just jokes” or misunderstandings. • Education: Challenge your biases by learning about the lived experiences of women of color, instead of expecting us to do the work for you. • Accountability: Call out microaggressions when you witness them, and reflect on how your own words or actions might harm others. • Safe spaces: Create environments where women of color feel supported, heard, and free to bring their authentic selves. As Black women, we’ve carried this weight for too long—strategizing our responses, choosing between speaking up or protecting our peace. Today, I honor the resilience of women of color who continue to exist boldly in spaces not designed for them. Let’s commit to not just recognizing microaggressions but dismantling the systems that perpetuate them. It starts with us! 💜 We have the power to put others down or lift others up. As women, if we aren't lifting other women up, supporting them, mentoring them, sponsoring them, how can we expect equality & equity to be achieved? We can say it's not enough if we are doing that. Men need to support us too, and that's of course true. But we should not use it as an excuse to NOT DO IT ourselves. Today and every day I am committed to controlling the things I can control. I cannot single-handedly remove the patriarchy, end the -isms, especially r@acism or create a safe world for women. But together, we absolutely can drive progress. 💜 It requires for everyone of us to do, WHAT WE CAN. 💜It requires for us women to stand together, focused on what we have in common vs. what separates us. 💜It requires for us women to leave our comfort zones frequently to work on removing the systems. And remember: ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL 💚 ! It is OK to find your way. As long as your way isn't harming anyone, don't let anyone tell you it's not good or not enough! Just get started. Here is what I am trying to do with my current capacity: 💜 Mentoring women in our organization with the focus on Black women where possible and sponsor them as well. 💜 Having coffee chats with our Gen Z female talent and supporting them in their early career journey. 💜 Supporting female content creators and female jobseekers with priority here on LinkedIn. 💜 Fostering pay transparency and supporting female talent when it comes to opportunity. 💜 Sharing my stories and experiences to show others what is possible and help them find their own way. 💜 Educating myself by following those who are sharing THEIR experiences. 💜 Supporting charities that drive the right outcomes for women in my opinion. Girls are taught to avoid failure and risk. Boys are taught to jump in, get messy, be brave. This stays with them. Men go for jobs when they only meet 60% of the requirements, women feel they need the full 100%. I was looking for ideas to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay with young people (link below) and found this quote from Reshma Saujani's TED talk 'Teach Girls Bravery, Not Perfection.' "I need each of you to tell every young woman you know — your sister, your niece, your employee, your colleague — to be comfortable with imperfection. Because when we teach girls to be imperfect, and we help them leverage it, we will build a movement of young women who are brave and who will build a better world — for themselves, and for each and every one of us."
