Thanks Emma Clark (Malica) FACHSM CHE and Rupert Bryce for posting this solid article that makes the compelling case for psych safety within the medical field. I couldn't agree more. Our team DataDrivesInsight.com has been empirically measuring psych safety and inclusivity within the health sector for more than 5 years now. We have over 24,000 data sets collected from leaders at all levels as well as team level data. Our insights are clear and aligned with Dr Amy Edmondson's research over the past 20 years. Psych Safety is THE CRITICAL FACTOR that makes the most significant difference to all kinds of metrics - including quality care outcomes, staff retention, etc....... The KICKER is that the NORM team within our data set has LOW psych safety or all the reasons you mention. The OPPORTUNITY is that with little investment in both time and $$ our data shows that psych safety can be improved dramatically. People within the Medical sector are usually bright and highly motivated, so when we equip them with the minimum amount of the RIGHT diagnostic and real time resources, they "get it" and it works. Abby Hunt and Sasha Burnham are speaking at the upcoming health conference in Brisbane in October about exactly this. In the meantime, if anyone wants to connect to find out how to build psych safety within medical/health care teams asap, please reach out for a chat. God only knows that our health care professionals need every bit of help they can get :) Cheers, Ash
This is one of the most readable articles I have seen on Psychological Safety. This is a well-written and insightful piece that emphasizes creating a culture where individuals feel empowered to openly express themselves. In healthcare, implementing psychological safety has demonstrated enhancements in team performance, patient outcomes, and staff well-being. Let me know what you think. Emma Clark (Malica) FACHSM CHE
Thanks Ash Hunt. Looking forward to seeing you and team at the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM) College of Health Service Management (ACHSM) national congress in Brisbane in October 💟
