It's called a proof of concept... I talk to a lot of startups. Many are seeking assistance with what equipment to purchase, how much manufacturing space they need, where to buy material, etc. One of my first questions is, "What are you going to build?" That will determine most of the answers to the questions above. My next question is, "What kind of pipeline do you have?" Without a pipeline, a book of work, you'll just have a big building with a lot of expensive equipment in it that's just burning cash monthly. Proof of concept folks. The less architecture, the better. At least if you are an early stage startup. During my three years as CTO in Shapemaker I have mostly run the technical development based on the strategy "as simple as possible". This was entirely intentional, because I knew from the start that I didn't know the complexity of civil engineering and this was one of my choices to tackle that challenge. I think there are many benefits to keeping systems as simple as possible, but for a startup in particular the main benefit you're looking for is the ability to change your mind about your product as you learn more about your market. The winds of change have been blowing recently and keeping it simple is not the right strategy for every situation. Right now I'm happy to reap the benefits of the years past and use it to the best of my ability to position Shapemaker for further expansion in 2025. I bet you don’t know what a charrette is. But I bet you’ve had a bunch of them. Charettes are important tools in the iterative process. And it’s named after carts that carried #architecture students' materials and models to their final review. Fun fact: this was necessary because students often frantically worked on their models on the way to their final presentations, enlisting the help of friends along the way. Charettes are incredibly important to our own creative processes, even – especially! — among small teams and #startups. And it holds true even for #solopreneurs. In simple terms, an amplifier is an electrical circuit that boosts a weak signal or voltage, while filters separate frequencies, mainly to remove noise.
