It is important to see beyond your own “tribe” in order to lead a truly inclusive existence. As an African- American male, it’s important to truly focus beyond my tribe and support others. Anna Mok and the other leaders of #Ascend have been doing great work for many years to inspire and equip Pan-Asian students and professionals. When I see myself, I see them. I’m not their ally- I’m more than that. Their friend. Let’s all strive to have more true friendships beyond our natural tribes. Oftentimes, the challenge blacks have is that we are “too visible”- in that our presence is often seen as a negative. That’s one of our challenges but we know our presence, just like that of Pan-Asian professionals , increases merit, excellence and intelligence. . But Asians are often “unseen”- as in not sufficiently noticed and not deemed an appropriate group to focus on in Inclusion efforts. Both result in organizations failing to get the most out of available talent. I shared the Ascend post to encourage more people to look for the talent you may not see. It’s there in their video. Feeling like a creative magpie lately? 🐦✨ I've been digging into Austin Kleon's 'Steal Like an Artist', and it's sparked some serious introspection! Kleon's central idea? Nothing's truly original - we're all remixing existing concepts. And that idea? It hit home hard. In my world of leadership training, I've carved out a niche creating something uniquely valuable for Muslim women. How? By 'stealing' traditional leadership concepts and remixing them with the wisdom from the Sunnah of the Prophet. 🕌📚 It's like crafting a leadership smoothie - blend modern techniques, add a dash of prophetic tradition, and voila! A recipe that speaks directly to Muslim women leaders. Some of my favorite 'thefts': 1. Googling obsessively (Kleon approves!) 2. Carrying a notebook everywhere (inspiration has no schedule!) 3. Diving deep into both leadership theory AND Islamic teachings Who else is out there remixing ideas to serve their community? What unexpected combos have you created? P.S.
