As part of our subject PEV-113 Upper Intermediate Ability, we recently had an insightful group discussion on Sustainable Development Goal 3, which emphasizes ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages. Our conversation revolved around two crucial questions: 1️⃣ How can we address the social determinants of health in low-income communities? 2️⃣ How can healthcare systems be designed to prioritize prevention and early intervention? Key takeaways from the discussion included: 1. Social Determinants of Health like access to clean water, education, and economic stability are fundamental in improving public health outcomes. 2. Prevention and Early Intervention are essential to reducing the burden on healthcare systems. Technology, telemedicine, and community health programs can play a pivotal role in achieving this. 3. The importance of government policies, training healthcare workers, and providing economic opportunities to improve overall well-being in low-income communities. This discussion reminded us that improving health outcomes requires a multi-dimensional approach, involving governments, communities, healthcare providers, and even technology working together to achieve goal of Good Health and Well-being. #SustainableDevelopment #HealthAndWellBeing #Healthcare #PublicHealth #CommunityHealth #UnitedNations #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #Prevention

In the realm of healthcare, it's crucial to recognize that health outcomes are shaped by far more than medical interventions alone. Enter social determinants of health—a complex web of social, economic, and environmental factors that significantly influence one's well-being. From access to quality education and nutritious food to stable housing and safe neighborhoods, these determinants play a pivotal role in shaping health outcomes and disparities across communities. Consider this: Individuals facing socioeconomic challenges often encounter barriers to accessing healthcare services, preventive care, and essential resources. As a result, they may experience higher rates of chronic conditions, lower life expectancies, and diminished quality of life. Understanding the profound impact of social determinants of health is the first step toward fostering health equity and building healthier communities. It calls for a holistic approach to healthcare—one that addresses not only medical needs but also addresses the root causes of health disparities. By advocating for policies that address systemic inequities, investing in community-based interventions, and promoting collaboration across sectors, we can work towards a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive regardless of their social circumstances. Let's continue the conversation, collaborate on solutions, and champion initiatives that prioritize health equity and social justice. Together, we can create a healthier, more equitable world for all. #SDoH #HealthEquity #CommunityHealth #PublicHealth #SocialJustice

Accountable Communities for Health (ACHs) are formal, community-based partnerships that bring together public organizations such as local health departments, schools, local government, and law enforcement, with private organizations such as hospitals, health clinics, health plans, and community-based organizations to transform community health systems in pursuit of improved population health and well-being. A recent study from PHI’s Population Health Innovation Lab published in Health Services Research advances understanding of how ACHs advance equity. While current literature argues that multisector health initiatives are integral for advancing health equity, there is a lack of research on how these initiatives advance equity in practice. The numerous approaches ACHs use to advance health equity are important to ensure everyone can reach their full health potential. https://lnkd.in/dxWe2crj #CommunityBasedHealthcare #HealthEquity #ThoughtLeadership #AccountableCommunitiesForHealth #MultisectorCollaboration

Health equity is essential for a fair healthcare system, allowing everyone, regardless of background, to access the health outcomes they deserve. Growing disparities expose systemic inequalities that require urgent reforms. From my experience, I have seen the profound impact that social determinants like education and housing have on health outcomes. For instance, marginalized communities often grapple with higher chronic illness rates due to inadequate access to preventive care. Addressing these disparities can improve public health and reduce economic burdens on our healthcare systems. What strategies have you seen work in promoting health equity in your communities? The challenges we face, including racism and economic inequality, demand robust funding and accurate data collection. Together, we can make meaningful progress towards health equity, ensuring everyone has the opportunity for optimal health. The #primaryhealthcare workforce sits at the center of a multi-layered health system. Critical for a person-centered system prioritizing access and equity is an integrated cadre of #communityhealthworkers. To discuss strengthening the enabling environment for these community health workers, PROPEL Health hosted a webinar on “Investing in the Health Workforce to Improve Health Outcomes at the Community Level.” The featured speakers for this webinar were Jorge Ugaz, Director of Health Economics and Policy; Dr. Solange Hakiba, Health Systems Strengthening Consultant; and Dr. Alex Herrin, Technical Advisor for Financing and Systems Strengthening. During the webinar, they discussed PROPEL Health’s ongoing work with community health workers, potential opportunities, and presented case studies from #Rwanda and the #Philippines. These case studies highlighted key elements of a successful #communityhealthworkforce program and showed the potential for growth in the future; for example, through avenues like public-private community partnerships and the digitization of #communityhealthservices. To hear Jorge discuss the importance of community health workers and how critical they are to improving #healthoutcomes, check out the clip below. Watch the full webinar recording here: https://propel.pub/chws.
