Years of underinvestment and lack of political direction are being blamed for the state of the German railways, which have in recent years been beset by a massive increase in breakdowns, delays, cancellations and other major technical mishaps and led to unflattering comparisons with infrastructure in the developing world. The overhaul will start with the 70km (43-mile) stretch between Frankfurt and Mannheim, a key national and international rail route on which one in seven long-distance trains – 300 a day, carrying 15,000 passengers – run and which is also vital for freight traffic. #railway #germany #railcorridor #DeutscheBahn

A powerful rail network plays a crucial role in realizing the vision of a unified Europe. Freedom of movement between member states is one of the EU's greatest achievements, and the common rail network is an important lifeline for transnational mobility. The best example of this is the Interrail ticket, which over 600,000 people used to travel across Europe by train in 2022 alone. This would not be possible without a modern and well-developed high-speed rail network. Between 1985 and 2021, the number of high-speed rail lines in the EU27 member states increased almost twenty-fold. This refers to lines that allow speeds of more than 200 km/h. However, there is still a lot to do. Cross-border trips currently account for only 7% of the kilometers travelled by train. The EU plans to double cross-border rail traffic by 2030 and triple it by 2050. To this end, it is also supporting new international rail connections, such as from Munich to Rome and from Paris to Venice. Until the coronavirus pandemic, rail passenger traffic in the EU was growing year on year. After all, rail is one of the most sustainable, fastest and safest means of transportation we have. For this reason, expanding and modernizing the transnational rail network to further connect Europe - and its people - should remain a top priority in the future.

"It's a race, the market is pushing so hard" Gwendoline Cazenave is right ! High Speed rail in Europe has never been so profitable ! At Kevin Speed we are staying away from the complications of the London-Continent market due to the new EES EU entry system. We chose instead to enter the domestic french market on three of its six most profitable lines : ilisto will serve Paris-Lille, Paris-Lyon and Paris Strasbourg. We teamed up early with Alstom for 20 new single deck high speed trainsets. We secured the first Track Access Framework Agreement on these three lines from the french government, infrastructure manager (SNCF Réseau), four regions and the independant Railway Transport Authority (Autorité de régulation des transports). "Industry executives" also say that up to 4 contenders are now wrestling to take Track Access Framework Agreements on Bordeaux-Paris and the atlantic High Speed line and LISEA, aiming to take advantage of the french market which is the largest and most profitable in Europe. Partial change of ownership at LISEA is now on the agenda, probably spurred by the increase in traffic. The capitalistic race for profitable lines have indeed started on High Speed Rail in Europe. Wishing a great weekend to everyone in my LinkedIn community! I’m back with another blog post, this time I look over Britain’s complicated relationship with high speed rail. Despite inventing the modern railway, Britain has been behind the curve when it comes to high speed rail, and High Speed 2 is indeed, Britain’s second attempt at relieving the West Coast Mainline in 50 years! Hope you enjoy reading and let me know your thoughts below ;) (PS, this blog isn’t just about cars, but mobility and transportation overall, would love to know your thoughts on this format!) https://lnkd.in/ejvrgNaJ
