Today represents a profound testament to the enduring spirit of people who have tirelessly advocated for freedom and equality. Juneteenth is a federal holiday that celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African American people in the United States. The holiday is sometimes referred to as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. Juneteenth is a day to reflect on the atrocities and inequalities that African Americans have faced throughout history and in the present day. I think that Juneteenth is a celebration of progress. When looking at the whole wide world really, despite the very painful parts of the history, change is possible, and there is still much much work to be done . And Juneteenth is affirmation to that. Although Juneteenth is an official agency holiday, we couldn't miss out on our Freedom Day celebration, so we did it a day early! Juneteenth marks a significant moment in American history—the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in Texas in 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day symbolizes freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice. In addition to celebrating the momentous occasion, it's also a time to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to address racial disparities.
