Choose wisely between job and career. One may find a lucrative IT job but making it as a career is a long term effort with continuous update in the very fast changing domain. Highlight of the article is comment from Phil Fersht, CEO of HFS research.
It is alarming to see major recruiters pulling back on hiring. The sad part is talented engineering graduates getting into non-core engineering areas risking their careers. Institutes, teachers, parents, and industry have a greater role in mentoring students and channeling their potential in the right direction for a long-term fruitful career rather than short-term job. We at DTRI, foresaw the effects of AI on IT industry and started an "Industry-Institute Connect" initiative. Under this program we have visited (and continue to) 10+ engineering colleges conducting such mentoring programs and picking talented final-year graduates through our assessments. The idea is to connect the talented engineers for placement in core fields such as wireless communication, embedded systems, IoT, power electronics, and so on. Please get in touch with me if you need further information. Hiring Experiences: One area which can humble an entrepreneur, perhaps, is hiring. Just when thought you found the right person to your team, they seem to have made other choices. It is undeniable fact there is huge shortage of skilled professionals. A while ago, a very eminent Professor and Director of a reputed institution was mentioning how there is decrease in interest in core engineering . This has been the trend in other colleges too where core engineering branches are being shutdown. So, we are going to see more and more shortage of engineers in core engineering , yes. This is consequently going to drive our dependence on other countries for our electronics and hardware requirements. The government is driving policy with various schemes to empower the manufacturing sector. https://lnkd.in/gXQk5C7z To add to it ,as a part of the manufacturing ecosystem, what could we do to make manufacturing aspirational? How we develop and grow key skills? P.S. A Senior Industry Professional/ Mentor I had in US ,once exclaimed - we have outsourced manufacturing and most youngsters don't understand design any longer. He was searching for professionals to share his experiences on design.
