When was the last time your cyber-resilience strategy was stress tested? A cyber-resilience strategy is comprised of long-term thinking and short-term actions. As a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), you will need to be engaged with the mission and vision of the business to integrate short and long-term cybersecurity services. When initially working with new clients, I ask them three questions: 1) Is your business resilient? 2) How do you know and what is the level of your resilience? And 3) Will your resilience allow you to continue business operations shortly after a cyber-attack? The purpose of the questions are to get the business thinking and asking the question, are they ready for next emerging AI-cyberattack? This Dark Reading article talks about stress testing the resilience of your eco-system to be ready for the next unexpected cyberattack. The article refers to embracing a future-resilience approach (which I fully embrace). It also mentions, “to become more resilient in a world of "unseen until it's too late" threats, we must strengthen our plans by stress-testing our assumptions.” Business leadership must not assume they are secure and resilient; they must often validate the promised expectations of cybersecurity services protecting their enterprise. All cybersecurity strategies and technologies should be stress tested annually or after digital transformation change(s) to ensure interoperability of threat intelligence monitoring and mitigation activities before and not during the next AI-cyberattack. Friday Thoughts 💭 Over the past five years, the threat landscape in OT (Operational Technology) environments has evolved dramatically. As OT systems become more interconnected and integrated with IT networks, cyberattacks have surged in both frequency and sophistication. The rise of ransomware, supply chain attacks, and nation-state threats targeting critical infrastructure has exposed vulnerabilities in industrial control systems that were once considered isolated. One of the key areas demanding immediate attention is Identity Based Secure Remote Access. With the increasing need for remote operations, especially post-pandemic, providing safe access to OT environments has become essential.
