At PwC UK we recently gathered 100 investors, corporates and public sector representatives in London to look at how we can create and accelerate pathways for private capital in the #EnergyTransition. Despite the appetite and availability of private capital, investing into energy transition is not straightforward. Why? Because of the myriad of solutions/technologies at different levels of maturity that need scaling up and commercialisation, and the growing need for collaboration not just between public and private players, but increasingly within the private sector and across borders (for example, why are UK pension schemes seemingly more risk averse to equity/VC stage investment relative to their US counterparts?) There is a mismatch between what the private capital market is offering, and what we need for decarbonisation. If we are to fully harness its potential, we need to think creatively about how to overcome some of these challenges as well as the collaboration, skills and talent needed to plug the various gaps. Our event, Bridging the Gap, brought together key perspectives on these issues under one roof, and generated new ideas for how private capital investors, companies and governments can collaborate moving forward. Watch this clip for a snapshot of what happened on the day 👇 And, stay tuned for our discussion paper later this month, where we will be diving deeper into the insights from the event. #Deals #Energy #PrivateCapital Matthew Alabaster Anna McGinley Ajay Amin Clara Cutajar Elina Roine Ricky Sandhu Ram Ramachander

Getting private capital into the net zero transition is mission critical to meeting climate change targets but there is much to do create projects, business models and precedent to systematically and efficiently unlock it. As a veteran of the PPP years (as I know many of you are) those same "projects" skills feel increasingly relevant.

Fantastic event hosted by my colleague Matthew Alabaster to discuss the role of private capital in the energy transition. Changing our low carbon generation and energy infrastructure landscape was always going to be a huge undertaking. You have heard me talk before about solving the Rubik's cube and the need to ensure we look at the sector from a whole energy system perspective: that is now more important than ever, as activity needs to ramp up fast with a focus on building enduring large and small scale energy generation and infrastructure at scale. We have made huge progress delivering low carbon energy, but doing it faster and tackling the much needed upgrade of energy infrastructure to support the transition to low carbon, will require even more innovation, creativity and probably a different view on risk and ways of working. Unlocking the power of private sector capital will be critical to help inject the momentum and pace required. But it needs to be done in a thoughtful way that allows for different forms of collaboration between private sector finance, corporates and the government to support capital to flow into these new, and sometimes higher risk, projects to achieve growth. Lots to do but a great opportunity to drive growth in the UK market. Drew Stevenson Ajay Amin Naz Klendjian Anna McGinley Avinash Rao Panos Stergiopoulos Gary Olney Jason Morris Karolina Davison

Our EY Attractiveness Survey for Financial Services is out and reveals that even through challenging market conditions, foreign investment into Europe’s financial centres grew last year − outpacing other industries. Germany remains as one of the three top destinations for foreign direct investment in financial services which is great news and shows once again that Germany remains an attractive business location for financial services in general. This was also underpinned by the recent announcement of the EU that Frankfurt will be the host of the new anti-money laundering authority (AMLA). Watch how Omar Ali outlines the top three headlines for European FS firms in 60 seconds. 👇
