Significant delays have been noted in the completion of Court of Inquiry (CoI) hearings in the Indian Army, according to a recent report submitted to Parliament by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. The research looked at financial loss instances from three Army Commands (Central, Eastern, and Western) for the year that ended in March 2021. Only 46 and 25 of the 95 instances that were reviewed met the deadlines for convening and finishing CoIs, respectively. Eleven cases—some lasting up to 11 years—took longer than two years, which is shocking. Incomplete terms of reference, inconsistent convening order issuance, and insufficient loss assessment and responsibility allocation were all mentioned in the study. An estimated ₹50.76 crore in total financial loss was determined, but ₹43.64 crore remains unregularised due to incomplete reporting to accounting authorities.
