Let's be real. These "cross-functional" jobs are just a fancy way for companies to make you do two (or three!) jobs for the price of one. Especially in cybersecurity, where expertise can literally prevent a data breach that costs millions. You're supposed to be a marketing specialist AND a coding expert? Sell products AND build the website? Sounds like a recipe for burnout and mediocre work at best. Here's the dirty secret: Companies don't want well-rounded superstars, they want cheap labor. They want you to be a chameleon, constantly changing to fit their needs. But what about YOUR needs? What about becoming an expert in your field? In cybersecurity, that expertise protects sensitive information and the company's reputation. How is this cross functional role dangerous for the overall quality of deliverables when it comes to Cybersecurity and what about the risks involved? Is it justified and acceptable to experiment with such critical roles? They're basically telling you: "Hey, why pay two people when we can confuse one person into doing both?" Don't fall for it! Unless you enjoy feeling like a confused hamster on a wheel, tell them you want a clear role with clear expectations.
