Just got back from an energizing and productive week in Chicago spent with my Advanced RPO colleagues Pam Verhoff, John Hess, Jan Grohoske, Tim Oyer, Justin King, and Ryan Feeney. In addition to enjoying some fantastic meals and team bonding (one question was — what’s your super power?), we spent a lot of time working ON the business. The sales and marketing team spent a day and a half together focused on fine-tuning our strategy for the year and one of my observations, and the thing I’m most excited about, is their willingness to evolve their approach to business development. If you’ve read any of Gartner’s research around B2B buyer behavior, you know that buyers do a ton of research themselves and engage with sales only when they (the buyers) are ready. As a recent Gartner report stated “Simply increasing the volume of meetings to drive pipeline is ineffective for today’s evolved B2B buying.” This awesome sales team not only recognizes that things are changing, they are embracing new ways to connect with potential clients and build their pipelines. It’s a refreshing change and I’m excited for the success I know they will achieve as a result of adapting. So back to the super power question……what’s yours? Picked up my 22nd client last week! Thrilled to have onboarded my 10th #PortCo from my 4th #PrivateEquity firm. Each client type brings unique challenges and rewards, but my PortCos stand out as particularly fascinating and fulfilling. Why, you ask? Quick decision-making on brand, creative, target and more all us to adapt to changing market dynamics. Considerably less time wasted in swirl because of aligned clarity. This week, I’m back in Barcelona for our Quarterly Business Review (QBR) with the commercial leadership team. QBRs are vital for calibrating our strategy. While tactical adjustments happen weekly, strategic shifts need time to play out, making a quarterly cadence ideal. It’s also an excellent opportunity to reflect on operational and analytical rhythms, which I delved into earlier this year. Here are the highlights on these two rhythms: 🔁 Operational Rhythm: 👉 Operational rhythm refers to the sequence of activities that GTM teams perform with RevOps to drive outcomes. A key concept here is the 'preserve or pivot' question, asked after updates on key initiatives in each commercial meeting, all guided by data. 👉 The 'heartbeat' of communication is a continuous feedback loop between frontline teams and leadership. This is essential for calibrating GTM strategy in response to market opportunities and challenges while tracking GTM effectiveness. 🔂 Analytical Rhythm: 👉 'Are we having a good or bad week/month/quarter?' This seemingly simple question challenges companies and their GTM teams to provide a data-driven response. It starts with understanding pipeline creation and conversion before diving deeper into revenue attainment. Asking this question and adopting a data-driven approach forms the analytical rhythm that propels decision-making. QBRs provide a chance to look back and plan ahead, calibrating our strategy for the upcoming quarter to ensure we stay on track to meet our goals.
