https://lnkd.in/et65S9Et I think it is nice if green hydrogen get cheaper. But what do they mean that most hydrogen nowadays is used to make plastic.... Making plastic out of oil often produces hydrogen. Hydrogen, at this moment in time, is used for ammonia and subsequently for fertilizer. And for the production gasoline, gasoil, etc in hydrocrackers and for desulpherisation of gasoline and gasoil. Plastic, yeah sure. And to make power with hydrogen is not very nice.... Power to H2 To power is only 30- 40% efficient. So, keep the hydrogen stories real. Before you know it, people want to use it in their own house. As if that is ever going to happen.

Who profits from the rush to green resources (for the transition to climate neutrality)? The title of a special issue of MO* magazine, which is dedicated to the debate about the extraction, processing, refining and recycling of #criticalmetals. The main article of the issue, written by John Vandaele, is available here (in Dutch). I was happy to contribute to this analysis with my views on #responsiblemining in Europe and #responsiblesourcing from other (like-minded) countries in the world. This article will also take centre stage for two upcoming debates: 📣 24 March, Gent (Industriemuseum): "MO*talks". Panel: Thijs Van de Graaf, Peter Tom Jones, Wies Willems, Jan Franco - moderated by John Vandaele [More info: https://lnkd.in/e7uJQjX4] 📣 27 March, Leuven (DOCVILLE, Aula Vesalius): Premiere "Europe's Mining Renaissance: A Catalyst for Climate Neutrality) + panel debate with Ia Modin, Julia Poliscanova (she/her), Nick Meynen, Peter Tom Jones - moderated by John Vandaele [More info: https://lnkd.in/exUHvaur] 🎬 "Europe's Mining Renaissance" - Synopsis. The #CriticalRawMaterialsAct sets benchmarks for diversifying Europe’s critical raw materials supply chains, making Europe less dependent on China, Russia et al. International Biodiesel Day takes place on August 10. It is a day to commemorate the discovery of the diesel engine by Rudolf Diesel in 1890. He designed the engine to work on both petroleum fuel and vegetable oil, opening the possibility for organic oils, which are renewable and viable fuel sources in the near future. Biofuel is a type of fuel manufactured from vegetable oils and can work without causing as much air pollution as fossil fuels. This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative source to fuel vehicles and machines, just as Mr. Diesel predicted. https://lnkd.in/dFSnKYsD

India to Define Green Steel: A Bold Step Towards Sustainability India is gearing up to unveil its formula for "green steel" by mid-December, marking a significant stride in its journey towards sustainable industrial practices. The government is also working on procurement policies to encourage the adoption of decarbonized steel, signaling its commitment to tackling climate change. What is Green Steel? Green steel is produced using advanced technologies that drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts. Unlike traditional steel production, which contributes 7-9% of global carbon emissions, green steel represents a cleaner, more sustainable alternative. Innovative Green Steel Production Methods 1. Hydrogen Reduction: Using hydrogen instead of coal or natural gas to reduce iron ore, effectively eliminating carbon emissions. 2. Electric Arc Furnaces: Powered by renewable energy, these furnaces minimize dependence on fossil fuels. 3. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): Capturing and securely storing CO2 emissions from steelmaking processes. 4. Recycling: Maximizing the use of recycled steel to reduce the need for energy-intensive primary production. 5. Biomass-Based Steelmaking: Employing biomass, such as waste wood, as a reducing agent instead of conventional fuels. Why Green Steel Matters - Reduced Carbon Footprint: Significantly lowers greenhouse gas emissions. - Environmental Sustainability: Minimizes harm to ecosystems while promoting greener industrial processes. - Energy Efficiency: Enhances production efficiency, reducing overall energy consumption. - Global Leadership: Positions India as a pioneer in sustainable steel manufacturing. - Regulatory Compliance: Ensures alignment with stringent environmental standards, fostering long-term growth. This initiative underscores India’s determination to lead the global transition to cleaner industries. By defining and promoting green steel, India is not only addressing its climate goals but also laying the foundation for a sustainable future in steel production.

Global economy is only 7% circular and the trend is declining According to The Circularity Gap Report 2024 the share of secondary materials consumed by the global economy has decreased from 9.1% in 2018 to 7.2% in 2023 and the consumption went up to 500GT. The extraction, processing, and manufacturing of goods are responsible for about 62% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Traditional materials like cement and steel alone contribute approximately 8% of these emissions. Advanced material which can one day replace cement, steel and mined minerals such as copper need to scale up quickly for us to achieve net zero. We at NoPo Nanotechnologies are contributing towards this gaol and scaling up CNTs #netzero #circulareconomy #climatechange Source: https://lnkd.in/gtR9qP8c
