Freedom Summer 1964 was a voting rights movement meant to draw attention to suppression of Black people's voting rights. This history could not be more relevant today as we face a crucial national election 60 years later. Read this NAACP LDF post to learn more about Freedom Summer and its story of multiracial activism for voting rights. https://lnkd.in/gC5zyvFs
Freedom Summer was meant to draw national attention to the persistent voter intimidation and dilution happening in Mississippi and to directly counter the false narrative that Black people in the South were not registered to vote. https://lnkd.in/eCZ4NSq3

Today is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay, and it’s a day that truly matters. While many awareness days come and go, this one is crucial for ensuring our voices are heard and our communities are represented. From legacy civil rights organizations like the National Urban League to the Divine 9 and beyond (#soartothepolls), organizations across the country are mobilizing voter registration efforts. This is your reminder to take action today. Even if you believe you're already registered to vote, it's essential to double-check. Voter rolls are often purged, and errors can happen. We have the potential to ignite transformative change through the combined power of our prayers, our voices, and our actions. We know that Black, brown, and low-income communities are underrepresented at the ballot box. And we know that when we don't vote, they don't listen. We refuse to let that happen. We believe that faith manifests in action. And we take powerful action when we vote. As the general elections approach, FaithActs is dedicated to equipping you with the necessary resources, information, and support you need to vote. Currently, we have 6,000 committed voters in Connecticut. We’re aiming to activate 10,000 voters in Connecticut by 2025, so we’re 4,000 voters away from reaching that goal. Help us reach our goal, join us in committing to vote alongside FaithActs at buff.ly/3VxkVvY.
