Few things are as important as breast milk in the first few years of life. Breast milk is not just food for babies; it's like a special recipe that helps them grow healthy and strong. Imagine a baby snuggled in the comfort of their mom's arms, attached to her breasts, and exploring the world around them. At that moment, they're getting all the assurance of safety and comfort while receiving all the nutrients they need from their mother's milk. It's specially made just for them, with everything in the right amounts. As babies grow, breast milk becomes their shield, protecting them from falling ill. The powerful nutrients and antibodies within fight off germs and keep them healthy, whether from a little cold or something else. Breastmilk isn't just good for the body; it's great for the brain too. It gives babies what they need to think and learn, helping them do well in school and beyond. There's something really special about breastfeeding—it creates a strong bond between a mother and her baby. In those quiet times, they connect in a way that's hard to explain. It's a deep, loving bond that lasts a lifetime. Let's give a big shoutout to all the amazing moms trying or succeeding at breastfeeding. They work hard to give their babies the best start in life, with love and care in every drop of milk they give. In a world that can be confusing, breast milk is a simple, pure gift. So here's to all the moms and their liquid gold, giving babies the best start and endless possibilities for the future. #lluviahealth #lluvia #breastmilk #breastfeeding #liquidgold #breastisrest #nourishingnectar #milksupply #latchon #mamamilk #bondingtime #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingsupport

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK - Closing The Gap, Breastfeeding Support For All August 1-7 is celebrated as the world’s breastfeeding days from 1992 after the 1990 Innocent Declaration; the main aim was to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding. Annually, a theme is announced based on the healthcare system, women, work, economy, human rights, community support, and ecology. This year's theme is "Closing the Gap, breastfeeding support for all.” Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure the baby receives all the nutrients needed to survive and be healthy. WHO has recommended exclusive breastfeeding for all babies till 6 months But only a few infants receive this gift. This is because of: • The stigma associated with it in society. • The absence of maternity leave and work policies is a concern. • Income. • Not receiving the needed support from the health care professionals and family. • Issues with lactating and latching. • Concern about the baby’s weight and nutrients. • Concern about taking medicines during breastfeeding. How to close this gap The first week of breastfeeding is critical for the journey of breastfeeding. Some of the initiatives that can be taken to close the gap are: • Educating people. • Maintaining good sanitation and clean water. • A reasonable work policy. • Support the vulnerable groups to initiate breastfeeding. • No poverty. • Zero hunger and good nutrition. • Good health and wellbeing. • Good healthcare support even in rural areas. • Increase healthcare agencies focussing on breastfeeding. • Investing in breastfeeding to alleviate the social inequalities. • Creating awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding #closingthegap #WBW #linkedln #worldbreastfeedingweek2024 #contentwriting

As a mother of two, I understand the incredible journey and challenges that come with breastfeeding. I breastfed my children for 11 and 8 months, respectively, and firmly believe in the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life. Unfortunately, due to needle prick injuries, I had to stop earlier than I wished. Breastfeeding offers unmatched health benefits for both mother and child. It provides essential nutrients and antibodies, reducing the risk of infections, allergies, and chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes. For mothers, breastfeeding helps in faster recovery post-delivery, lowers the risk of breast and ovarian cancers, and promotes a unique bond with the baby. However, my journey was not without its hurdles. Finding a private place to pump and express milk was often challenging, and the lack of refrigeration made storing milk difficult. I resorted to using ice packs, which was far from ideal. It's crucial that we create a more supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers. Women should feel comfortable breastfeeding in public without being forced into restrooms. Workplaces must embrace breastfeeding by providing private spaces and storage facilities to help mothers continue this important practice. Let’s advocate for better support systems and environments for breastfeeding mothers. Together, we can ensure that every mother has the opportunity to provide the best nutrition for her child, without unnecessary barriers. #BreastfeedingAwareness #Motherhood #WomensHealth #WorkplaceWellness #SupportMothers #BreastfeedingBenefits

This year's theme is SURVIVAL, HEALTH AND WELLBEING: Did you know Black infants are twice as likely to die before their first birthday compared to white infants? For Black mothers and their babies, this means better health outcomes and stronger developmental milestones. Each August's first week is a 'World Breastfeeding Week'. This year's theme was 💫“Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all”💫 emphasizing the need to improve breastfeeding support as a critical action for reducing health inequity and protecting the rights of mothers and babies to survive and thrive. "When mothers receive the support they need to breastfeed their babies, everyone benefits. Improving breastfeeding rates could save over 820 000 children’s lives each year, according to the latest available data." World Health Organization & UNICEF "Yet, despite its uncountable benefits, many mothers face challenges when it comes to breastfeeding, particularly in #PublicSettings. The discomfort often stems from a lack of appropriate clothing, which can make the experience more stressful than it should be. Understanding this need, Kosmotive has taken a step forward by designing the #KadablahCollection, featuring the #IsaroBreastfeedingDress. This dress is crafted to offer both style and functionality, allowing mothers to breastfeed comfortably and confidently wherever they are. At Kosmotive, we believe that no mother should have to choose between feeding her child and feeling comfortable in her own skin. The Isaro Breastfeeding Dress is just one way we’re supporting mothers in their breastfeeding journey. Together, let's close the gap and ensure all mothers have the support they need to thrive📢💝✊ Check it out for your loved ones here https://lnkd.in/dwtT3PVp

August 1-7 marks #worldbreastfeedingweek (WBW), a global celebration promoting the importance of breastfeeding for mothers and babies. Breast milk provides optimal nutrition, boosts immunity, and fosters a lifelong bond between mother and child. Yet, many mothers face challenges in initiating or continuing breastfeeding due to lack of support, misinformation, or societal pressures. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, with continued breastfeeding along with solid foods, for a year or beyond. Despite its benefits, many mothers face barriers to breastfeeding, and which includes: - limited access to lactation support - lack of confidence to breastfeed in the public - unsupportive environments in healthcare, workplace and communities - cultural barriers. Following these challenges, the purpose of celebrating the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) founded by world alliance for breastfeeding action is to: - raise awareness about breastfeeding benefits - promote supportive environments in healthcare, workplaces, and communities - empower mothers to make informed choices about breastfeeding - encourage governments to implement breastfeeding-friendly policies - normalize breastfeeding in public and private spaces - offer emotional support to breastfeeding mothers Afrolongevity calls us to create a world where every mother can breastfeed with confidence and support. Happy World Breastfeeding Week! #worldbreastfeedingweek #breastfeedingsupport

The World Health Assembly (WHA) has set a goal to increase the global rate of exclusive breastfeeding to at least 50% by 2025. This goal is crucial because, right now, only 38% of infants aged 0 to 6 months are exclusively breastfed. This means millions of babies are missing out on the essential, irreplaceable nutrition that only breastfeeding can provide for their growth and development. Exclusive breastfeeding is crucial for a child's survival and health. It provides all essential nutrients for the first six months, boosts the immune system to protect against illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia, and supports cognitive development for better educational outcomes. It also fosters a strong mother-child bond and reduces the risk of chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes. Despite these advantages, many mothers face challenges such as lack of support, misinformation, and societal stigma. By raising awareness and supporting breastfeeding initiatives, we can help more mothers and babies reap these benefits. Let's work together to support and promote exclusive breastfeeding. I suck. You suck. We all suck. But, only if we had the opportunity to. 📰 It's old news, really. We've known since the 80's how important skin-to-skin, or kangaroo care, is for mother-birther/baby attachment. But, time is of the essence. ⏳ The "Golden Hour," the time immediately following birth, is critical to promote bonding, reduce stress of both mother and baby, helps with motor system modulation of the newborn and body temperature regulation. Naturally, there is a direct correlation between skin-to-skin and breastfeeding. 🦘 Known as the Righard study, 72 infants "delivered normally" were observed. The contact group had one solid hour of skin-to-skin, and then were taken away for 20 minutes and returned [https://lnkd.in/exByEMca]. 💔 The other group, known as the separation group, had 20 minutes of skin-to-skin, and then were taken away for 20 minutes of bathing/warmer, and, then were brought back for an additional 20 mins of skin-to-skin contact. 🔍 Assessing the infant's suckling two weeks later had astonishing results. In the contact group, 24 out of 38 babies were sucking correctly. In the separation group, only 7 out of 34 babies were sucking correctly. 🤱🏾 It wasn't until the 90's that the "Baby-Friendly USA (#BFHI) launched a global effort by World Health Organization and UNICEF to implement practices that protect, promote and support breastfeeding" including allowance and implementation of skin-to-skin time [https://lnkd.in/dYPT3adg]. 📆 Depending on the year you were born, and the type of hospital you were born at, you might of never had the opportunity to suck. And, that frankly sucks. Together our future can suck! *** 🎓 Healthy Children Project | Center For Breastfeeding 📷 Photo by Alex Hockett on Unsplash #breastfeeding #latch #suckling #LactationInnovation #Lactavation #NipTips #NipTipQuips #milkmade #MilkMakesUs
