CRICK BOAT SHOW 2024 It's almost a month since we welcomed lots of wonderful boat folk to our Tillers & Tankards festival village at Crick Marina during their annual boat show. We had an incredible line up of live music over four days which got toes tapping and created lots of sing along moments. Another highlight from the weekend was supporting Channel 4's Narrow Escapes star, Chugabug and a fantastic bunch of narrowboat vloggers for his charity beard shave. Thank you to everyone who showed up to support and donated, they raised just over £4,000 for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Here are some highlights from the Saturday, enjoy! https://lnkd.in/eiApTnmc #community #aquavistawatersides #crickmarina #findfreedom #throwbackthursday

What #fundraising lesson can hummingbird watching teach us? On a recent episode of Shark Tank, a couple came to pitch their product, the HummViewer. It's a plastic mask that has three hummingbird feeders that you wear so you can get a literal bird's eye view of these tiny birds. It's a niche product with a very limited audience. But this couple was passionate about the idea and it was felt in their pitch. This could have easily been dismissed, but the Sharks one by one kindly thanked the couple and said that famous phrase, "I'm out." You could see the gradual disappointment on the inventor's face. Except there was one Shark left. He told the story about how his parents loved hummingbirds and when his dad passed away, he and his family saw a hummingbird fly in front of his parents' home one last time. So, every time he sees a hummingbird, he thinks of his father. He made an offer and the rest, as they say, is history. What's the #fundraising moral here? This couple pitched their idea to all of the Sharks. After all, the Sharks have money and they're looking to invest. But the one who really got hooked had a deep personal connection to this very specialized interest. He's the one who invested. So often #nonprofits believe that everyone could be a donor to their important cause because the organization exists. And with 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. there's way too much overlap and many, many niche missions. But if this Shark Tank pitch shows us anything (aside from how not to pitch), it's that the people who ultimately invest do so because they personally connect with the organization. Stop chasing after everyone who has money. Focus on the ones who align with what you do. They're the ones who will give at whatever amount they can. And once they become investors in your mission, ask them their story and their connection to your cause. What's their hummingbird moment? #nonprofits #charities #fundraisers #nonprofitmanagement #nonprofitleadership https://lnkd.in/giqrmrtn

Listen to today's podcast... Ever wondered who St. Nicholas was? There once was a young boy named Nicholas, who was born during the third century. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic. Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to the those in need. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating St. Nicholas Day: We could all stand to be a little more like St. Nicholas. Here is a boy, whose world dramatically changed when his parents died. He could have let this beat him down. He could have drowned in self-pity. Instead, he relied on his faith and did whatever he could to help those who were even less fortunate then himself. Let’s get good at turning life around and focusing on what we have, and less on what we have lost or don’t have. Today, we have the image of Santa Clause and we give gifts to the people we know and love. But what about our giving to those less fortunate then ourselves? We are donating less each year. The average annual amount per donor is less than $500 with the median amount under $150. With the economy the way that it is, the demand within most charities has increased while their donations have decreased. Make a difference in the lives of someone less fortunate than you. It doesn’t take a lot to have a huge impact. In 1998, my youngest son was due to arrive on Christmas Day. We decided that boy or girl, their name would honour St. Nicholas as he was our blessed gift. Nickolas arrived safely on December 22. If you like today’s resiliency tips, let me know. Don’t forget that you can find more tips for building resiliency, by checking out my Live Smart blog at worksmartlivesmart.com #mentalhealth #hr

Read or watch this. And please consider your next step. This October, a team of 6 of us will be taking on the CHX #MeetYourMountain Challenge 2024! We will be doing so in support of our chosen charity – The Millimetres 2 Mountains Foundation. This tiny charity, founded by Ed Jackson & his wife, Louis, after Ed (a professional rugby player at the time) suffered a life-changing and hugely traumatic spinal cord injury, leaving him paralysed from the shoulders down. Ed’s journey from hopelessness to climbing some of the highest mountains in the world, is our inspiration to go higher & further, and we hope you’ll take it with us! For those of you who know me, I am passionate about family and action sports in equal measure. Being out of my comfort zone where the risks are visible and obvious is an environment in which we can learn so much. Equally, being in flow state, charging down a hill on my bike with kids can do the same, but it is fragile. Our life-circumstances can change in a heartbeat, in the midst of everyday life. That is why I am so passionate about this. Life-changing can be life-changing if we have the support to make it that way! We will be competing with 5 other teams (representing their own charities) over 2 days on the Mont Blanc massif, accumulating as many points as we can by covering as much distance, and gaining as much altitude as possible, raising as much fundraising for #M2M as we possibly can. We will be aiming for around 6km of vertical altitude gain, equivalent to doing twice that of the British 3 peaks challenge, at twice the altitude, where the air is thinner and the summits are higher! We will endeavour to surpass 60km of distance and to raise in excess of £12,000. We will of course be aiming to get on the top step of the podium too! We can of course go fast alone, but we can go further together. Please chuck what you can in our virtual bucket – know that you’re doing something awesome, and I’ll keep you up to date with training, teaming & achieving!!! If you're going to click 'like', why not share & click here (to give a little or a lot): https://lnkd.in/ed2ZptC4 Thank you!! #Purpose #M2M #Leadership #Team #Alps Damien Stork Stuart Swaby Andrew Barlow Tim Welch

#SUDEPActionDay2024 1 out of every 150 people with poorly controlled seizures or epilepsy die from SUDEP. Before April 7, 2024, I was unaware of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death from Epilepsy). It wasn't until my brother passed away in his sleep that we learned seizures can lead to this risk. If you know anyone with seizures or epilepsy, please inform them about SUDEP and discuss it with their neurologist. Taking proactive steps can reduce risks and potentially save lives. There are resources out there, it’s a matter of having a conversation first. While it's too late for Jaaden, we can all help others avoid a similar fate. In honor of Jaaden Steward and others who have passed from SUDEP, the Steward family will be hosting a kickball fundraising event on Nov. 16th. We invite all who can to participate. All proceeds will be donated to the Epilepsy Foundation. Information can be found on the website listed below. https://lnkd.in/ewh-Sfua

Our Meeting with In Sue's Name Today, we had the incredible honor of meeting David Alan Taylor, the inspiring founder of In Sue's Name - a charity that holds a special place in our hearts. This charity was established by David and his family in loving memory of Sue, a remarkable woman who tragically lost her battle with a brain tumour in 2011 at the young age of 42, leaving behind two beautiful children. But today, we're not just here to share Sue's story. We want to introduce you all to something amazing that we've been working on - Influential Stars✨ with experiences In partnership with Virgin Experience Days. Our project is set to launch at the end of October 2023, and we couldn't be more excited! 🚀 Our mission is simple: to raise awareness about brain tumours and fundraise for brain tumour charities. But that's not all - we are committed to supporting charities across the entire UK! 🇬🇧 Now, here's where we need your help! David has reached out to all of you, our incredible community, to see if anyone would be interested in volunteering for this project. We need passionate individuals who can lend their expertise in marketing, PR, project management, and so much more. We are in desperate need of your skills and dedication. 💪 We want to be transparent - We are not a registered charity. We are a business, a startup with big dreams. Just like any new venture, we need to wait for funds to come to fruition before we can offer salaries to our team. But fear not, our voluntary work won't last forever. We are confident that with your support, we'll soon be able to compensate our incredible team for their hard work and dedication. So, what are you waiting for? Click the link in my bio to find out more about our project and how you can get involved. Together, we can make a difference, not only for brain tumour patients and their families but for all charities across the UK. Let's come together and create a future filled with hope and support. 💙 #InSuesName #InfluentialStars #CharityProject #MakingADifference #VolunteerOpportunity #GivingBack #UKCharities #BrainTumourAwareness https://lnkd.in/eHnxBHWV
