The Isuzu Australia Limited “Future of Trucking Report” reveals a clear interest among Australian businesses to transition towards electric vehicles (EVs) and zero-emission strategies. According to the report, 91% of surveyed businesses are considering adopting zero-emission solutions for their fleets, signifying a growing recognition of the need for sustainable transport options. However, the pace of adoption varies: only 10% of businesses are currently implementing zero-emission strategies, while 40% plan to introduce them within two years and another 41% within a decade. Logistics is sustainable in its core: #Logistics wants to achieve more with less. That’s what the buzz word #efficiency means. But that’s not enough. We have to do more, and we have the right plans in place. 🚛In #Germany we started using electric package cars in 2008, going one step further in 2010 and converting diesel trucks into electric as the vehicles we needed were not yet on the market. 🚲In 2012, we trialed our first delivery of packages with cargo bikes, which now run in over 30 cities worldwide. Right here in #Munich we have our largest bike operation, covering about 2/3 of the environmental zone of the city. ☀️Of course, using electric vehicles only makes sense if we power them with sustainable electricity. I’m proud to report that in Germany UPS has only been purchasing electricity from renewable sources for several years. 🌍Today is #earthday and we’re aware that we’re only at the beginning. We still need to do more, and we will. We’re on our way to become carbon neutral worldwide. In June, Danish engineering group Danfoss drove one of its electric trucks over 1,300km (808 miles) from Denmark to Le Mans, France, to coincide with the 24-hour race. As 48% of all trucks in Denmark drive under 300km (186 miles) a day and 62% of all EU HGV journeys are under 400km (249 miles), so Danfoss sees no reason why fleets can’t switch to fully electric trucks, as long as the infrastructure is in place. Danfoss’s chief sustainability officer, Torben Christensen said the experiment proved: “...for a large percentage of trucks, there is no reason to have range anxiety, and…electrification of heavy transport will make a significant contribution to the green transition.” What do you think?
