LIVE TODAY at 11am CT and the last show of the year! 👉The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 102 “Finding Candidates is the Easy Part" I don't know about you, but I'm feeling pretty good about 2025. Hirewell closed out the year on a hot streak. Best 4 month stretch in 2 years. 21 new solutions clients signed since May 1. And more chatter about increased hiring from both VC-backed start ups and traditional industries alike. So if hiring’s on the upswing, what new challenge will take its place? Getting candidates to say yes and sticking around, of course! Every delayed search, declined offer, quick exit, and unexpected resignation comes from a lack of understanding that there's a lot more to hiring than recruiting. Jeff Smith and I will do a deep dive on what your company needs to focus on in a strengthening job market in the The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 102, "Finding Candidates is the Easy Part” View LIVE via: LinkedIn Live (follow me for the notification) Hirewell's YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter accounts. Here’s a hiring tip that will save you time and headaches: Be as clear and transparent as possible in your job descriptions! 💡 When I was ready to hire my first VA, I didn’t have a huge budget—only 10 hours a month to offer and a long list of potential tasks. So, I got specific in my job description: “I may not have the hours or budget for you to handle everything, but I want someone who at least understands these areas and can grow with me as my business scales.” 🔍 This approach helped in three key ways: 🔹 Filtered out candidates who weren’t a good fit. 🔹 Attracted adaptable VAs who were ready to work with my budget. 🔹 Set expectations early, leading to smoother onboarding and long-term success. Don’t leave things vague. Set clear expectations upfront, and you’ll find the right fit faster! Catch the full episode on YouTube or your preferred podcast platform now! Link in the first comment.

Did anyone else binge-watch The Bear this weekend? If you're in talent in any way and can only watch one episode (though I recommend the whole series if you love the hospitality industry), check out Season 3, Episode 6 - "Napkins." Never have I seen a modern show so accurately depict the struggle of a job seeker in a post-COVID world. It resonates deeply now because of how real it feels. Without giving away spoilers, we follow a character who worked in one team for 15 years only to be affected by a company-wide layoff. Hilarity ensues, and she ends up working in the kitchen where our heroes are based. While I may not know the exact feeling of being laid off, I've spoken to many candidates who do. What I do connect with is: 📍 Applying for a role through a portal only to be rejected because you didn't also fill in a LinkedIn application. 📍 Being invited for an interview, only to show up and be told the role is filled, and they forgot to update the other candidates. 📍 Getting excited about an opportunity from a job ad, only to be told that the role is filled and they're leaving the ad up "just in case." In today's market, getting your hopes up is really, really hard. The episode hits a crescendo with my favorite skill-based work analogy. Tina (our hero) asks if she can leave a resume and gets a response from the kitchen, "Why? What does a resume do in a kitchen?" This is exactly what skill-based hiring is about.

"The Bear (Market)" - A personal anecdote and TV show recommendation. Layoffs were a hot topic in my industry at the time. So much so that our CEO proactively addressed the general anxiety by declaring in an All Hands meeting that "we are not doing layoffs." What a relief. I led off my 1:1 agenda with my boss later that day by opening up about the sense of security that gesture by the CEO made me feel. I thought that was brilliant example of emotional intelligence and people strategy. "Well.. about that.." As it turns out we were not "doing layoffs" we were "doing Reductions In Force." And yours truly was on the list. I had a vivid flashback of this whole day when I watched Season 3 Episode 6 of The Bear. For those of us that have been laid off (or RIF'ed), this episode is cathartic. If you're someone that has ever had to work to live, this episode is extremely validating to the experience of looking for a job. Most importantly for my fellow TA leaders: this episode is a stark reminder of the importance of empathy and treating candidates with the dignity they deserve. And a beautiful example of empathy leading to an interview (and hire.) The whole show is brilliant. I'll drop a link to a recap of this episode for the brave souls unconcerned with spoiler alerts in the comments. #thebear #layoffs #rif #empathy #dignity #candidateexperience #employeeexperience #yeschef #cheftina
