Jet-engine durability issues and the lack of spare parts are saddling the aviation industry. Few industries do well when their products keep breaking down. Jet-engine makers are currently an exception—and this is raising eyebrows. Shares in RTX Corporation hit a record high last week after the aerospace conglomerate significantly beat second-quarter earnings forecasts. Excluding one-time effects, operating profit in its Pratt & Whitney engine-making division rose 23%. GE Aerospace also reported a surge in demand for spare parts for commercial engines, and its stock closed at a 16-year high last Tuesday. In Europe, jet-engine manufacturers Rolls-Royce and Safran are expected to post robust results when they report this week.

Ever heard of a business model where things breaking down actually boosts profits? Welcome to the world of jet engines! 🛫💸 Jet engines are breaking down more frequently, yet manufacturers are raking in cash. How? Increased demand for spare parts and maintenance services is turning these durability issues into a goldmine. 💰🔧 This paradox highlights a critical misalignment of incentives in the aviation industry. While airlines grapple with grounded planes and delayed orders, engine makers are cashing in on the aftermarket services. It’s a stark reminder of the complexities and interdependencies in the aerospace sector. As we look to the future, it’s essential for manufacturers and airlines to collaborate more closely to ensure sustainable growth and innovation. The current model may be profitable, but it’s not without its challenges. Stay tuned for more insights and let’s navigate these skies together! 🌍✈️ #Aviation #Aerospace #JetEngines #Innovation #Sustainability #WSJ
