“Keep going! Keep going! Almost vacation!”
These were Tes Schoutens' thoughts during her Olympic bronze-medal swimming race🥉. What she said during the interview after the race struck me.
“I am most proud of how I was able to do this out of enjoyment,” she shared. Tes talked about how, over the last two years, she had been able to feel joy and have fun while swimming. Before that, she found it horrible, mostly because of the nerves.
I heard more athletes mention joy as a big driver for their success during the Paris Olympics, and I thought it was such a good reminder. Yes, with hard work and discipline, most people can push through. Sometimes you need to, and for a period of time, it's manageable. But in the long term, I believe having fun and enjoying what you do is really important to sustain high-level performance. It’s one of the many reasons why I decided to start my own business and find my way back to JOY. It’s also very contagious; if you’re a leader and love what you do, this is the energy your team will feel.
I’m curious to hear from you—do you ever reflect on what brings you joy in your work? Is this still part of what you do on a daily basis?
If you’re ready to bring back some of that joy in your work, send me a message, and let’s talk!✉️
