In September, Norselab Impact Day gathered investors, founders, and industry bodies around the central theme «Pioneering Meaningful Investing». Co-hosted by Investinor and Capricorn Investment Group, the event featured forward-thinking discussions on what can be achieved through impact investing as well as showcases from meaningful companies on the tangible impact they create in the real world. 🌱 Highlights include: 🌱 Impact investing can be both profitable and a driver for positive change, with several examples from panelists illustrating how meaningful impact aligns with market-rate returns. 📏 Standardized metrics often miss key impacts of investments. We need a holistic approach to identify opportunities and measure progress while meeting the aggregation needs of institutional investors. 🌍 A highly anticipated panel of the day addressed the question: Can impact investing make a difference in public markets? The panelists shared various examples of impact opportunities, ranging from solution strategies to resource efficiency strategies. A breakthrough moment for investing: I’ve recently returned from #MIT where I took part in the #systemicinvesting #summit 2024.    This brought together a range of initiatives – frontrunners from different corners of the world – to achieve what I believe is a breakthrough moment towards building a social movement that goes beyond impact investing.    One condition for the development of systemic investing (or as Deep Transitions Lab would say, transformative investment) is collaboration. Change will not come from individuals working alone, we need input and actions from a wide-range of actors. This includes research as we need to underpin what we do by evidence and create a strong research network to work with investors.    Many thanks to TransCap Initiative, alongside TWIST: Investing for Systems Change, MIT Sloan School of Management, Meridian Institute and everyone else who helped make the summit happen.    In addition to everything I’ve written, I also will take away from this all the connections and conversations I enjoyed with many of you. ✨ Last Thursday, we had a truly stellar session on #impactcarry in our MORE IMPACT FOR LUNCH SERIES. A heartfelt thank you goes to the many #impact aficionados and practitioners for attending and contributing to this highlight, especially to our super passionate and excellent panellists: • Kelley Luyken (Aurum Impact) • Diederik Wokke (Wire Group) • Lara Viada (Creas) • Alex Bakir (Norrsken Accelator)   💡 A lot of inspiration and ideas were sparked around this still relatively novel topic. Here are just a few key takeaways for those who couldn't be with us:   📈 The impact carry framework from the European Investment Fund (EIF) is making a dent in the ecosystem, and around 150 European impact funds are already embedding impact-linked compensation. 👟 Impact carry is still in kids' shoes and needs to grow and mature in terms of impact data #comparability. Especially social impact is very difficult to compare. Being humble about #attribution is also important and standardization is a must to make progress with this model. 🤝 LP and GP relationships span multiple years and need to have the courage to work things out together in practice while sharing the same goal. Industry #collaboration is key to further develop the impact carry model. 🚀 Achieving true impact needs investor #additionality and #intentionality.
