Here is Rivian's latest EPA application document for their MY2025 R1T & R1S EVs - first of all we note an increased number of different versions. As always, the document includes interesting information such as maintenance plans and a summary of powertrain characteristics for each vehicle version. All Rivian R1T & R1S vehicles feature two 264kW/392Vdc PM motors and a 392V / 140.8kWh Li-Ion Battery. A recent leak of internal documents from Toyota, a company that has long hesitated to fully embrace electric vehicles (EVs), outlines their "1:6:90 Rule." The 1:6:90 Rule posits that the raw materials required to manufacture one battery electric vehicle could alternatively be used to produce six plug-in hybrids or a staggering 90 hybrid vehicles. Toyota argues that the overall carbon reduction achieved by these 90 hybrids over their lifetime is 37 times greater than that of a single-battery electric vehicle. Toyota is focusing on hybrids, like Toyota's iconic Prius, which uses a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. We learn that the vehicles feature a 375Vdc / 296Ah battery back. Both vehicles included in this application are offered in an AWD configuration. They are powered by 180kW PM motors in the front and in the rear, except for the Polestar 3 Dual Motor Performance Pack, which uses a 200kW PM motor in the rear. The Polestar 3 is now assembled in the U.S., in South Carolina.
