🚘✨ Experiencing the Future: My First Waymo Ride! 🌱🌟 When my aunt visited from Copenhagen, I wanted to give her a unique San Francisco experience—something that captures the essence of innovation. What better way than a ride into the future? We booked a Waymo, and the look on her face when the electric, driverless JLR I-PACE arrived was priceless! "Is this really happening or am I in a scene from Minority Report?” she whispered, squeezing my hand as we stepped up to the car. That blend of excitement and nervousness summed up my own emotions perfectly. With a quick app tap, I unlocked our ride and even queued up my playlist—because futuristic tech deserves a soundtrack! 🎵 What amazed me most was how fast the initial "wow, this is sci-fi!" moment transformed into the ordinary. In minutes, we were discussing lunch plans as our autonomous car navigated the city with ease. It reminded me of what someone once said: "For the first few minutes, there's a rush of excitement. But soon, people just relax into it." As a high school student passionate about tech and sustainability, this ride was more than a cool experience; it was a vision of what's possible. Looking back at my photos and videos 📸, I don’t just see a driverless car; I see a bridge connecting generations, cultures, and endless possibilities. Would you trust a driverless car for your next adventure? 🤔 #Waymo #Innovation #FutureOfTransport #SustainableTech #StudentPerspective #SanFrancisco #TechExperience #AI #NextGeneration

🤩Surreal feeling riding Waymo all week for my innovation tour. 🧑🏻🔬From the first days when I started there in 2016 riding the firefly prototype, experimenting with all types of ideas to the inbetween days of go to market, business models, unit economics, launch playbooks and the world’s first launch in Phoenix, I got to ride hundreds of times over the years as part of the team (aka waynonauts👨🏻🚀) or as insider UX friend of Waymo post launch! 🤖It has been such a learning experience to bring AI into the physical world. These robots are AI agents. Physical AI is the future and I’m excited to be part of it. ✨From day one the team has set out to build the world’s best driver no matter the mode and to make this extraordinary experience ordinary. 🤳🏻Now as a regular customer this week to see and hear my friends and colleagues talk about it is just amazing how far we’ve come. Every ride has been consistent, clean, comfortable and enjoyable. Bringing joy back to travel is well over due. 📈This is just the beginning, there’s much to be done and so much more to come and I’m so excited for my peeps as they expand across various markets. 🫡 Go waymonauts 🚀 🔔Follow me, Timothy Papandreou for the latest in emerging technology. 📷Go to my instagram acct for more reels like this👇🏼 #keynotespeaker #mc #moderator #vision #automatedvehicles #robotaxi #transport #mobility

Cruising to the club in a Waymo robotaxi last Friday night was more than just a fun ride – it was a glimpse into the future of AI-powered transportation. No driver, no worries, just smooth autonomous navigation and a surprisingly friendly AI voice assistant! 🤖🎶 Video Link: https://lnkd.in/gsxzYUr7 But the real mind-blower? Waymo's tech isn't just about convenience; it could be a stepping stone towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Here's why: Complex Decision-Making: Navigating traffic, pedestrians, and unexpected events requires sophisticated real-time decision-making, a key component of AGI. Perception and Prediction: Waymo's sensor suite and AI algorithms enable it to perceive and predict the behavior of other road users, mimicking human-like understanding of the environment. Continuous Learning: Waymo's AI is constantly learning and improving from every mile driven, showcasing the adaptability and iterative learning that AGI aims to achieve. While Waymo isn't explicitly building AGI, the technology behind their self-driving cars could provide valuable insights and building blocks for future AGI development. Food for Thought: Could the challenges Waymo overcomes in autonomous driving (like navigating unpredictable scenarios) inform AGI research? What other real-world applications of AI could accelerate our path towards AGI? Are self-driving cars a stepping stone, or just a fascinating sideshow, in the grand scheme of AGI? Let's discuss in the comments! 👇 #Waymo #SelfDrivingCars #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #AGI #MachineLearning #Robotics #FutureofTransportation #Innovation

I risked my life taking a driverless car so you don't have to. I was recently accepted (Approved? Initiated? Welcomed into an elite cabal of people who live south of Santa Monica and between La Cienaga and Western?) to Waymo, an Uber-like service that sends driverless cars to take you to your destination in a slow, considered, and frustratingly cautious way. I was excited to test out this new technology that will undoubtedly become the standard in the coming years, and it did not disappoint. I had driven in self-driving Teslas before so that aspect wasn't new but being in the backseat of a car with no one in the front was. To be brief, it was a little weird but incredibly awesome. It was easy to use. I felt extremely safe. And it's just another tell-tale sign that AI is coming for us and it's coming fast. I'll admit to having an outsized fascination with AI and how it's going to affect everything we do in life. But I can't help but think of what it will mean for my career and the jobs of millions (nay - billions?) of people around the world. That part terrifies me. The parkouring robots from Boston Dynamics also scare me. The car worked so well that it sent my mind into a tailspin as to what it eventually will be able to do. While there will surely be pockets of joy and wonder while this revolutionary technological advancement grabs hold, all of our displacement will be irreversible. And it feels like the train's already left the station. We're going to have to buckle up for the ride. And hey, Waymo, name the cars! #AI #DriverlessCars #Innovation #FutureofTechnology

It seems that the future has already arrived! In San Francisco I had the pleasure of trying Waymo’s self-driving robo-taxis. I noticed some interesting things about the user experience: 😮 The first time it was a bit scary as it feels like you’re being driven around by a ghost behind the wheel 🤖 The car drives extra carefully and is never distracted, this makes it feel more safe than riding in some normal taxicabs 🚕 It was amazing how quickly it starts to feel normal 👏 The car always arrives on time and never gets cancelled, as there’s no driver that can decide to not pick you up 👋 You still feel like greeting the car and saying goodbye when it leaves, even while there’s no driver 💬 It’s nice to choose your own music and temperature during your ride, but we also missed the interesting conversations you might have with a local taxi driver It's exciting to think about all the possibilities that these innovations can bring, and it's interesting to think about the new challenges that come with it! #Innovation #FutureOfTransportation #Waymo #AutonomousVehicles

Living in SF feels like stepping into 2030. Waymos are everywhere since they opened to GA last week, alongside Zoox Test Vehicles, Rivians, Cybertrucks, and soon to come Archer Air-Taxis. It's a daily reminder of why this city remains the center of innovation. As an early adopter, I've been commuting via Waymo for a few months now. The evolution has been remarkable: 1. Safety? Check. Never once felt unsafe in my months of daily commute. If anything, it's overly cautious and polite, for example yielding every time there's an emergency vehicle in a nearby radius, even if not on the path. 2. Comfort? Hardly any abrupt braking, smoother rides, less motion sickness. 3. Privacy? Your own bubble with your own music. What's interesting is the adoption curve. I've noticed a clear divide: skepticism about driverless taxis until people actually experience it. Yet, every Uber/Lyft driver I've chatted with in SF seems unfazed by Waymo, and believe it will never become the norm. Watching pedestrians and drivers react is amusing when I ride in one. The photos, the questions – it's a constant reminder that we're living in the future, right now. With Waymo expanding to other cities (hello, Atlanta!), I'm curious to see how they'll tackle highways and how different markets will respond. Every airport run has me dreaming of the day Waymo goes long-distance. Who else is riding the autonomous wave? Curious to hear your experiences and predictions. #Waymo #DriverlessTaxi #AIinMotion #FutureOfWork

Waymo 🤖 🚘 has closed funding round of $5.6 billion, led by Alphabet Inc., with continued participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Fidelity, Perry Creek Capital, Silver Lake, Tiger Global Management, and T. Rowe Price. The new funding round bringing #Waymo valuation to an estimated $30 billion. #Waymo has raised $2.25 billion in 2020 and $2.5 billion in 2021. However, the valuation has not changed owing to rising operating cost. It currently completes 100,000 robotaxi rides each week, operating its autonomous vehicle services primarily in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Waymo’s valuation could potentially rise to $50 billion or more in the next few years, particularly if it scales to additional cities and increases its service frequency. #autonomous #robotaxi #autonomousvehicles https://lnkd.in/gCYf5z5c https://lnkd.in/ggYURXzk
