Celebrating World Children’s Day: Ensuring Safety from Child Seat to Seatbelt Understanding the journey from child seat to seat belt is important for every parent and guardian. The transition is not just about reaching a certain age or size – it’s about ensuring safety as our children grow. Let’s make this change a safe one. Here are some generally accepted recommendations to keep in mind: 👉 It is recommended, that Infants travel in a rear-facing child seat (reboarder), which provides the best protection for the child’s head, neck, and spine. 👉 Toddlers and preschoolers might benefit from a forward-facing child seat with a five-point harness. 👉 School-aged children who have outgrown the forward-facing child seat should use a booster seat to ensure the seat belt fits correctly over the child’s thighs and chest. 👉 Children should remain in the booster seat until they are tall enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat belt without a booster seat. 👉 From a height of about 150 cm, it is worth considering whether children can use the vehicle's regular seat belt. It's important that the belt fits over the thighs and chest, not over the abdomen or neck. 👉 Child seats should be correctly installed and regularly checked for damage and replaced according to the manufacturer’s instructions. 👉 It is advisable, that Children under the age of 13 always sit in the back seat, as it is the safest place in the vehicle. The proper use of child seats and seat belts is essential for the safety of children in cars. Parents and caregivers should always follow the latest recommendations and legal regulations to ensure that children are as well protected as possible. CHILDCARE CRISIS “The sector is completely flailing right now,” said state Senator Jabari Brisport, who chairs the chamber’s Committee on Children and Families and has proposed that the state fund universal childcare. Twelve percent of New York childcare workers live below the federal poverty level, compared to 5 percent of all workers in the state. The industry’s median wage is just over $32,900, making for some of the lowest paid workers in the state. “You expect us to be able to hire staff, keep them here, and have them want to be here — because they’re getting what exactly as a reward? It’s not money,” said Vargas, “because we can’t compete with anyone else. It’s hard for us to be able to stay in the market.” The industry was already shedding workers when the federal funding cliff hit. According to The Century Foundation’s analysis of federal data, employment in New York’s childcare industry fell by 32 percent between 2019 and 2023. (That data excludes preschool teachers and teaching assistants.) “In other sectors, like retail and food services, wages have gone up,” said Julie Kashen, the director for women’s economic justice at The Century Foundation and the report’s lead author. “Even if they train, and love working with children, people can make more money selling coffee, so they are leaving the childcare sector to do that. The current state of childcare is a lose-lose for employers and families alike. On the one hand we have mothers saying: "It’s hard to manage expensive daycare payments with the pay I receive. I wish my job had a daycare center or help with childcare. I have to have my mom take my kids to daycare because I have to be at work before daycare even opens." (Listen to Your Mother's "Working Mothers Speak" 2023 report) And on the other, we have employers reporting significant challenges with retention, turnover, and staffing shortages. It is exciting to see the work of this task force engaging folks from all sectors, and recognizing the important role that employers can play in the solution. Whether that be booking a visit with an expert to purchase from us or to discuss information regarding our products, both of which utilises the 1:1 personalised experience. We would like as much feedback as possible as we understand that we may need to make alternations to the process before we roll out to the nation if this service proves popular. Our store colleagues are extremely excited, and are waiting with anticipation for the booking of visits in store. This platform not only supports and assists our customers who have disabilities or additional requirements, but the tool also supports our colleagues by supplying them with information, training and videos regarding each disability/additional needs selected by the customer.
