It was a great pleasure to visit Holmfirth High School on Wednesday (which incidentally looks beautiful in the snow) to talk to Year 9 about a career in accountancy. Thomson Williams and I, representing Parsons Chartered Accountants, discussed paths in to the industry (and whether or not university fees now represent an unrealistic burden to higher education), the day to day life of an accountant and the skills needed to succeed. We also did a task whereby the students decided the minimum salary they needed to live their lifestyle of choice. One group decided the absolute minimum was £48,000 so here is to hoping they find a very lucrative entry level position in due course! And yes, chocolates are an effective bribe to encourage responses to questions! Richard Walker Ian Parsons Brendan Sykes Jen Bird #accountancy #careers #education #communication #skills #lifestyle
