Why are we celebrating AI UGC ? 2025 is being labelled as the year of AI generated UGC. Sure the tech is mind blowing. When it's used in D2C advertising it's cool and cutting edge. But if it's used to phish credit card details it's the lowest of the low. My prediction for 2025 is that AI UGC is a hot topic. But the focus will be on the regulation of it's use. Educating society on how to spot fake content. Platforms being forced to highlight AI UGC as artificial. So we can protect the vulnerable. Sure there is a short term advantage to be had. But there's also a price to pay. - I'm really interested in the general consensus on this topic, so opening up the comments for a good discussion.
I'm not an ecommerce / B2C guy so might be missing something, but when we talk about "UGC ads" isn't it usually referring to paid actors claiming to use a product rather than actual users? Not sure how that is ethically different from using AI (although I suspect the AI ones just won't be effective because of the usual uncanny valley that these things fall into)
The thing is, it's not even all AI - It's still built around a creator performing to the camera and then just using AI to replace the voice and the lips. So at that point, why not just hire a creator to film it all?
A huge price to pay especially in the wrong hands.
Agree that AI UGC has both its advantages and disadvantages. Andy Gray

20hAndy Gray from a cost and speed perspective, I can get behind it, but definitely share some of the same concerns around how far it could be used for negative impact. I’d personally also be worried about how my image could be used as a creator with no control over it. I also wonder what impact this might have on what we currently consider UGC, will consumers start to value it more over obvious AI? Going to be interesting to see how it develops for sure
