When I tell people I work in fiction podcasting, one of the first questions that I get (other than "Does that pay?") is "What does that actually entail?" For the last three and a half years, I’ve worked as the Production Manager for the successful fiction podcast, The Sheridan Tapes (TST), as well as similar work for a few other podcasts. It’s my work with TST that I'm most proud of, and working on his project has made me an expert at weaving together a thousand small details. I have experience being the central hub between executive leaders, directors, writers, actors, and editors, in planning a cohesive story over 25 different episodes, in tracking the stages of writing, production, and post-production on each individual part, and in what it feels like to be working on projects at five different stages simultaneously. Through our monthly production sprints, and weekly podcast releases, I have learned how to continually refine our production process to eliminate burnout, deliver a consistent product, and stick to a regular release schedule—even with last-minute changes and edits. I know that I am skilled not only on a creative level, but on an organizational level, and that I shine best in environments where my work is a blend of individual and collaborative work. Making the work personal to who is on my team is incredibly important to me, and that’s a process that I’ve continually refined for my specific industry thus far. As part of my leadership with The Sheridan Tapes, I was responsible for shaping our mission and culture – which took place entirely online. During my time on this podcast, I’ve led with our cultural and personal impact in mind, prioritizing the hiring of sensitivity readers, making it an inclusive and exciting space for our trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming performers (and fans), and championing the effort to make our story something that celebrates the beauty and complexity of the world. Between October 2020 and February 2024, we’ve reached 3.9 million overall downloads, signed a hosting partnership with Realm Media, collaborated with two other major podcasts for storyline crossovers (the BBC-acclaimed Apocalypse Songs, and the SCP Archives), and we’re preparing to finally wrap up our 100-episode series for good next month, without breaking any deadlines we’ve set for ourselves. My entire time with TST has been based around protecting the collaborative nature of our project first, and in prioritizing relationship building to not only create a better product, but to make everyone’s time at work something that feels generative, inspiring, and refreshing. So the answer to "What does that actually entail?" is something along the lines of rowing the boat, building the boat, and bailing the boat out--simultaneously--every step of the way. But it's a journey that has served me well, and something that I'm looking forward to taking into my next role. #seekingwork #creativeentrepreneur #projectmanagement

Here's a bold statement: I'm not particularly fond of listening to podcasts. My preference leans more towards audiobooks. In fact, I often end up purchasing the books I start listening to. But that's a topic for another post. For now, let's pivot back to our core topic and delve into an innovative AI solution designed to demystify even the most extended podcasts. My disinterest in podcasts doesn't stem from a disregard for the speakers or their content, which often brims with intrigue. Instead, I find myself gravitating towards reading podcast transcripts when available. In situations where transcripts are absent, I take the initiative to generate my own using Whisper. Time, as we all know, is a finite resource of immense value. Given that some podcasts extend beyond the two-hour mark, perusing transcripts can become a time-intensive endeavor. It's in these moments that I turn to ChatGPT, which assists me by condensing these lengthy discussions into concise summaries and highlighting actionable items. This approach ensures that I'm making the most efficient use of my time. For those curious, I've tailored a specific GPT setup exclusively for this purpose :)

Audyllic's mission to improve podcast audio quality is democratic, timely and crucial. Many of us listen to podcasts in cars and noisy areas, making it difficult to hear the end of sentences, and volume changes can be frustrating. People who can't afford the best listening devices, those of us getting older and experiencing various audio issues, and those with hearing impairments deserve to be included. Polls show that poor audio quality is one of the top reasons people stop listening to podcasts. Let’s change that! Even the best radio stations with state-of-the-art studios and perfectly produced ads rely on tools like Optimod to enhance the listening experience for the mass audience. Many music producers and studio audio engineers may not be familiar with it, but Optimod ensures that even those using suboptimal devices or listening in noisy environments receive crisp and clear audio. It has evolved to maintain the higest audio quality in any setting. Poor audio on podcasts, especially when inconsistent with ad audio quality, creates a negative impression—it's like your throwing money away 💰 Now is the time for podcasts to match this level of attention to audio quality. Often, this crucial step is overlooked, which is why we set up Audyllic.com. We believe all listeners deserve the best experience, and those with less-than-perfect hearing shouldn’t be shut out. Here’s how we can make high-quality audio accessible to everyone, regardless of their device or listening environment: Use Audyllic: If you don't have the time, simply set up Audyllic's automated smart watch folder and leave the rest to Audyllic. This ensures the best possible audio quality before distribution. By implementing these strategies, we can ensure that everyone, regardless of their device or listening environment, enjoys high-quality audio. It's time for the podcasting industry to step up and prioritize audio quality, making podcasts truly democratic, accessible, and inclusive. Join us at audyllic.com in making this vision a reality! #Podcasting #AudioQuality #InclusiveAudio #AccessiblePodcasts #HearingImpaired #BetterPodcasts #Audyllic #PodcastProduction #AudioEnhancement #CrispClearAudio #ListenerExperience #PodcastCommunity #SmartAudio #TechForGood #PodcastInnovation

Thoughts on Google DeepMind NotebookLM, from someone who has produced more than 600 podcasts in 2024 alone... 1. Andrej Karpathy's not wrong -- the audio generation aspect really has some of the most magic since ChatGPT 2. NotebookLM being successful won't mean fewer human-produced podcasts. It will mean a total renaissance in audio content consumption, where anything can be reviewed, learned, understood via Socratic audio. Likely to increase the podcast audience size, not reduce it. 3. ElevenLabs is actively contributing to this as well. They just launched the ability this week for indie authors to create audiobooks effortlessly. Feels to me like Perplexity is going to have a stake here as well as they push the frontier of how you present collections of knowledge on the AI-enabled internet. 4. Back to Notebook, I so desperately want more fine grain control. Right now the excitement is the wonder of this incredibly impressive automated artifact, but I want the ability to actually guide the audio generation. That's where it will really take off and become next level. 5. As a creator-consumer-builder, very exciting to see Google firmly remind it's got AI platform game. Great work to all who worked on this! PS -- first NotebookLM component of an @AIDailyBrief coming this weekend!

Audyllic is a powerful online platform designed to enhance audio quality, particularly for podcasts, adverts, e-learning materials, and audiobooks. Here’s how it achieves broadcast-quality audio: Optimod Technology: Audyllic leverages Orban’s Optimod audio processing technology. Optimod has been renowned for over five decades for its unparalleled audio enhancement capabilities. It intelligently reduces the dynamic range (the difference between the loudest and softest sounds) in audio files, resulting in a smoother, more consistent listening experience. Speech Recognition Engine: Audyllic incorporates an intelligent speech recognition engine. When processing audio, it aims for a loudness level of -16 dB LUF (Loudness Units Full Scale), which typically measures between -18 and -23 RMS (Root Mean Square). This ensures compliance with standards like ACX for audiobooks. Affordability: Unlike traditional hardware or software solutions, Audyllic is cost-effective. Ease of Use: Content creators can upload their audio files directly to Audyllic, or use the automated watch folder where the platform applies the necessary enhancements. It’s a straightforward process that doesn’t require complex setup or additional tools Remember that while AI platforms have made significant strides in audio processing they are not near the HI Optimod standard. Audyllic is focused on a specific task—delivering high-quality audio—without being a “Swiss army knife” of features. If you need the highest standard broadcast-quality results, Audyllic is your only choice 🎤 🎙 🎙 Get Started - audyllic.com #Audyllic #Audio

Podcast, AI v Books The global podcasting market was valued at $18.52 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $130.63 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 27.6% from 2023 to 2030. How often do you listen to podcasts than songs? For millennials, it’s a 20-80 percent ratio, which shouldn’t be the case. The value of listening to a podcast might be understood after a short (disciplinary) amount of time. It consists of presentability, which a book published five years ago will never match. A podcast made with the help of AI will have more potential value than a man-made version of it. Asked why? AI consists of real-time data, where our brain might have some limited data. Industry lions use AI even to get a more adequate question list. It helps to brainstorm the idea of a guest to be in his ability to answer them. A book is written as a Monologue that can’t be interrupted. Readers cannot express their point of view in the middle of it. Where a podcast has the man itself, gets interrupted several times when there is a question that enlightens the mind of the podcaster. It helps. Here are Audiobooks as a bonus part of this article. How often a audiobooks get listened to today? the increasing popularity of audiobooks, with 53% of adults having listened to at least one audiobook in 2023, up from 45% in 2022. Next Sunday, let’s make another blog on the importance of Audio > Video.

Book recommendation Most days, I listen to audiobooks (Audible) and podcasts on topics such as entrepreneurship, AI, marketing, psychology and more. After recently watching the Steven Bartlett podcast interview with Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, the next book on my list is this one. Eric's insights during this interview on AI and its future impacts on humans and our world were fascinating, thought-provoking and very telling. I highly recommend you listen to/watch it. Eric has an exceptional background, having led one of the biggest tech companies in the world. I believe that like all other professions, surveying is and will be impacted by AI. If you are a surveyor in any field, I recommend you learn more about AI and consider how this will impact you or more importantly how you can use it to stay ahead of the curve. It can help with efficiency, productivity, data analysis, business development and much more. If you want to read a pragmatic, scientific, factual book on the future evolution of AI, then try this. I always need more hours in the day for learning! 😂
