Commercially-minded salespeople with great business ideas often get discouraged from creating a tech business because they aren't product-focused. They then go down the route of finding a product-focused co-founder before going all in on their idea. Josh Ashley-Collins went against this norm. He quit his job, created a business and then went and found advisors & contacts who complimented his strengths. We loved his story, from entry-level sales to running multiple tech-led businesses. Two questions every entrepreneur should be able to answer: 1. How do you reach “product-market fit”? 2. How do you know when you’ve achieved it? Last week Episode 3 of Revenew's podcast Platform Scoops dropped. 3 episodes in (not counting the Intro Episode with Revenew Co-Founder Nicholas Thomson) and with every chat we dig deeper into the inner workings of platforms. I'd like to thank my guests so far for joining and sharing their journeys with me: João Moreira (Monite), Jonatan Joseph Tsuff (Noovy), Jarron Aizen (Hapana). As payments folk, we're often biased to tackle every challenge from a payments' point of view. But payments form only a part of the many challenges a platform will face. Running a platform isn't easy. It's more like running an economy than a business. And if you've paid attention to the business landscape in recent years, you'll have noticed that most businesses either are a platform, or part of the platform ecosystem (as a service provider or seller of products), or they're planning to become a platform, too. We should encourage the building of more platforms, as this will lead to more competition and differentiation, platforms and marketplaces catering to niches and specialised fields, combating monopolistic markets. For this to become a reality, platforms need to have the right tooling at hand in order to build offerings that can compete with incumbents, by creating incredible customer experiences. That's really the goal of what we're building at Revenew and this podcast aims to answer some of the questions platform builders have today. Listening to the EGN Podcast episode about Miss Sophie, I thought back to many moments during my entrepreneurial years 💚. Nostalgia invaded me as I recalled the challenges and joys of building a business from scratch. The way Sophie Kühn tells us how she turned a personal problem into a successful e-commerce business is inspiring. It's a delightful chat going through the steps of setting up the business, the short budget, the competition, the years without a salary, the opportunities not wasted, the mistakes and successes, right up to the decision to step down 💪 . At the end, she shares 3 tips for those who want to become entrepreneurs, which I totally agree with: Tip 1: Passion is the fuel that drives any entrepreneur, we have to believe in the product before anyone else. Tip 2: Focus on the task, don't distract from the strategy. Tip 3: Resilience, never give up. Sophie's passion and determination are contagious, congratulations also to Efe von Thenen for once again hosting the interview with some really interesting questions.
