"In order to influence you have to have trust. In order to build trust, you have to listen. And in order to listen, you have to ask great questions."
That's just ONE of the fantastic points that Jason Zwang, CFRE made in our conversation about Major Gift Fundraising as a Trade on the Rainmaker Fundraising Podcast.

That match information you learned earlier with information you learned later, demonstrating that you've been listening. And when you do that and you've truly listened, that creates trust. And when you have trust, it's the only way you can have influence. And so in order to influence, you have to have trust. In order to build trust, you have to listen. And in order to listen, you have to ask good questions. So that's really the trade is learning how to ask good questions and then learning how to reflect back. Because philanthropy is effectively an exercise in empathy. Right. How do we help a family, support something they feel so deeply about and solve a problem in the world? How do we help them do that through our organization? Not our organization needs this and let me figure out how you can help give to it, right? Right.

It's crucial to ensure your contributions are making a real difference. By evaluating the impact of organizations, we can make more informed decisions about who and what we're giving our money to. Organizations that focus on quantifiable results are the ones truly making a difference. As a donor, shift your perspective and look beyond just numbers. Ask for evidence of impact and choose to support initiatives that move the needle.

God did not create me nor was I raised to be a sycophant or approbative person. So, I shall always express my thoughts based on critical thinking, pure logic and reason using all accessed information to draw my conclusions or form my opinions.
We have failed as a species. And, that is specifically because of our claim to being the species with the highest intelligence and yet, we still hoard resources out of primitive and instinctive fear of lack or scarcity that ou ancestors suffered from the days of the cave men.
I think that is a very clinical indicator of our level of evolution as a species.
Philanthropy isn't the solution. Certainly not as it is operated today which is questionable in many cases if not all.
The real problem is fear and control.
Ford, Rockefeller and other great business magnates in our recent history all built foundations after decades of business practices that, n some cases led to the death of many and, the impoverishment of an untold number more.
It seems to me that we cannot help nor rise out of our unique experiences in life which go a long way to informing the kind of human beings that we are. That is, whether we are tied in a way that we cannot help, to possessing vast amounts of money or not.
I fully understand that, in a way, we all seem to live in a force field that, most of the time, no one can get through except now and then if ever at all and, which limits our ability to see the world as it truly is or, the condition of the rest of humanity as it is and care about that or not.
After they've raped the planet, poisoned it and operated their businesses in ways that led to the depression, nervous breakdown, creation of social conditions that pushed people into criminality because of poverty and death, they then set up foundations to assuage their conscience.
No. It doesn't work like that.
