Lead for Compulsory Purchase Policy and Reform / UK Government

Today, the Government published the first iteration of its online register of CPO decisions in England: https://lnkd.in/eUcpKY24 The intention behind publishing the register is to increase transparency on how CPO decisions are taken and to improve knowledge and awareness of the purposes which compulsory purchase powers may be used. It is hoped this will give authorities greater confidence to use their CPO powers and help clarify misconceptions about the CPO process.   The publication of the register of CPOs decisions brings the compulsory purchase process in line with the transparency of other case types such as development consent orders and planning appeals.   The first iteration of the register includes details of each CPO submitted to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities for confirmation since 2019 and provides a broad description of the scheme, the enabling CPO power used, a summary of the decision and who made the decision.   We intend to update the register with new decisions on a quarterly basis. The next update is planned for July 2024.   Going forward, our aim is to enhance the register with copies of decisions letters/reports for each individual CPO confirmed by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

If only indepedent reports weren't withheld, altered dishonesty & wrong housing powers deliberately used and ignored by a complicit Whitehall / P Insp.  NOT the worst of it.  Nor is provision of deadly unfit accommodation, withheld heating & joint harassment campaign by Council & H Assoc who ignore valid homelessness applications due to breaches duty of care.

Great to see and I know there has been a lot of work in the background in getting to this milestone. Well done and thank you to all involved 👍🏻

Great stuff, this will no doubt be a great resource to all in the industry and help to drive up awareness and understanding of the process across the board.

A very sensible evolution of the powers which hopefully will remove some of the negativity associated with its use.
