Let's see how markets, especially overseas providers of capital, react if the push to allow the President to appoint/change Fed Chair gathers momentum. We already have this set up with government agencies like the SEC, and we know how that has introduced political intervention and significant policy volatility every four years. Checks and balances are one factor that distinguishes developed markets from emerging markets. This is why investors pay a higher multiple for DM vs EM. Geopolitics maybe channeling global current account surpluses away from US Treasuries. Do we want friendly central banks to back paddle too? Luckily there are no other markets that can easily absorb the large global trade/capital imbalances. I continue to believe that #gold & #bitcoin offer the cleanest signal for the subjects above.
