Brilliantly simple theory. that is what I have done over the years. I have found that my basic trades skills, that I learned over 40 plus years in my schooling and 20 plus years in the Navy, have put me in a position to know a lot of information from various trades. I worked three jobs while attending college to get three degrees which made me eligible for higher paying positions. Now, I speak on our industry and manage three organizations and their community outreach and education programs...
What seems to be difficult for me is getting a start, but I'm not giving up yet. Just imagine all the untapped potential that shops, yards, and other places are refusing because they're "unskilled," or "green." Guess what? So were you at a time! Everyone who is new to something will always be "unskilled" and "green"! What really sucks is the blatant refusal to hire or apprentice/train people who are "green" ultimately communicates that, really, there isn't any REAL demand for newcomers in the field and ultimately the "trades shortage" will continue until the "skilled trades" goes the way of the dinosaurs: extinct.
A lot of your working or not working is up to you, the tradesman.
In the world of today...the only guarantee of any job....is a fire or layoff; construction or otherwise
Knowledge work in the trades - I really like that concept, Andrew This guy is great, just added him
