Voodoo acquiring BeReal: a deeper take. 🔍 Last week, I shared my thoughts on Voodoo’s acquisition of BeReal, highlighting the benefits for Voodoo’s core gaming business. This time, I paid closer attention to other aspects of the deal in my new piece for InvestGame. First, integrating BeReal into Voodoo’s portfolio presents a significant opportunity for both BeReal and Wizz, Voodoo’s social network. While BeReal explicitly states that it has no ads and does not monetize, Wizz generates around $1.5M/month in IAP revenue alone, showing a solid $4.1 revenue per download (excluding ad revenue), according to AppMagic. We don’t yet know how the features of these social networks will intertwine, but there is clear potential for them to share best practices and enhance each other’s strengths. Second, the acquisition could grant substantial long-term benefits for Voodoo in terms of valuation. In the article, we highlight the typically higher multiples for social network companies compared to gaming ones. (The difference is huge!) In this context, the deal can benefit Voodoo’s business on several levels, be it 1) improving the current non-gaming business, 2) providing value for UA, or 3) increasing the company’s valuations before the potential acquisition.
