In property, they say it’s all about location, location, location. But in business? I’d argue it’s more about leverage, leverage, leverage. As a teenager, I spent my holidays in a small town in Malaysia. My uncle, the chair of the local chamber of commerce, was known as the connector. I’d join him at breakfasts, lunches, and dinners with his business associates. He built his reputation through relationships, and people leveraged his connections to get things done. It made me realize—sometimes, who you know matters more than what you know. A different way to look at business, but one that’s shaped my approach ever since. #Leverage #Networking #BusinessGrowth #BusinessLessons #PerthBusiness #Connections

https://lnkd.in/g57GjjtD Check out this hilarious skit by Ben Sumadiwiria, aka SupercoolBen or Bobby Saputra (not his real name). It's funny, but it also highlights an important point for business in Indonesia: To succeed in it doesn't come overnight, even with a groundbreaking product. I've learned this firsthand through both successes and failures in networking. Alongside my partner, Wahyu Taufiq Jaefer Kedir, we've noticed a common pattern: many potential clients dive in without understanding the market or overestimate their product's potential without considering the pros and cons. Indonesia offers vast opportunities, but standing out requires more than just a great product. It's about bridging the gap between professionalism and personal connection. Simple gestures like footing the bill or noticing personal touches in an office can make a big difference, I've closed a deal first-hand by noticing a client's office was designed as a memento to her late husband. Just as what the name means, in Selaras Group we're all about synchronicity, ensuring your company's growth aligns seamlessly with your goals. Let's chat about how we can work together!

We at NIRAS know that our employees form the very foundations of the organisation, and we do our best to offer them a work environment that is welcoming and positive. 🎯 In November, the NIRAS Manila office underwent a three-day workshop in Pico de Loro, a beach resort in Batangas, #Philippines, facilitated by NIRAS’ Senior People Business Partner John Bay and initiated by NIRAS Asia Manila President and Taiwan Managing Director Raoul Kubitschek. Despite housing five business units, the Manila team united for an in-depth discussion of four #workstyles: dominance, influence, steadiness, and conscientiousness or #DiSC. Learnings gained from the workshop vary, but the common benefits our employees found were: 📌 An improved understanding of different work styles among team members; 📌 Tools for better #teamwork and collaboration across work personalities; 📌 A greater sense of self-awareness and #personalgrowth. “I am focussed on building a high-performing organisation,” Human Resources Manager Ditas Guzman, MBA, DipIR, CHRP said. “The DiSC workshop has greatly enhanced our understanding of each other's personalities and work styles, allowing us to collaborate more effectively and complement one another’s strengths.” For Joyce Anne Asilo MBA, the senior business development (BD) manager for international financial institutions (IFI) and renewable energy, the workshop did this successfully. “It also taught us the values of proactiveness, teamwork and how the Manila team can move towards one NIRAS goal,” she added. This echoes the sentiment of Alyanna Mae Bumanlag, a road design engineer at Infrastructure International (INIT), who also saw the saw the workshop as a way for her team to reach a common goal. “People are not siloed in one personality but rather often adapt to whatever situation they are in,” she added. Learning to adapt to various work styles has been eye-opening for Mariel Nicolle Castro, a BD officer for INIT who recently joined NIRAS Manila. “Recognising these tendencies helps us maintain a professional, collaborative and positive working atmosphere,” she explained. As a new member of NIRAS, Mariel felt the group’s spirit of camaraderie and dedication. Another workshop teaching that resonated with the team was there are no silly questions! “Thank you to John for the encouragement,” said Bid Development Assistant Aillene Alcantara, MBA, who is part of NIRAS’ consulting arm. “It has reminded us of the importance of open communication and the willingness to ask questions, no matter how trivial they may seem.” Beyond the workshop, the Manila team also had a major opportunity to put what they learned into practice – through an Amazing Race that involved solving riddles and a lot of cardio! 🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♂️ Everyone participated, including the managers and directors. Afterwards, they enjoyed a relaxing time together at the beach. ⛱️ It was a productive yet fun time for our Manila colleagues.

Ever wondered why no one shared this industry and opportunity with you? I wished someone cared enough to share with me 30 years ago! In fact I wished someone took me under their wings to show me the industry and opportunity when I was feeling so lost and so alone in 1976!! But it’s never too late! We have people in their 80s, starting all over again, with hope and optimism. Together we inspire lives of purpose through healthy living, financial increase opportunity, connections to a global community and an opportunity to serve others!! Are these in alignment with what you are searching for? Well, come and listen tonight T I find out. Dreaming without actions are just dreams. 🌐 Week #4 - Deciphering 'Purpose' in Global Work Relationships 🌐 Consider guanxi in China, where building trust with business associates can involve a series of non-business-related interactions. If you're not attuned to this cultural practice, you might misinterpret these meetings as irrelevant or unprofessional. In contrast, a Finnish colleague might be wary of an invitation for coffee outside the office. While casual coffee breaks are common at work, stepping outside changes the dynamics significantly. It implies a deeper level of friendship, something that carries considerable weight and long-term commitment in Finnish culture. 🤔 Misinterpretations and miscommunications often arise when we fail to recognize the underlying 'Purpose' of a relationship in different cultural contexts. Your Challenge: Reflect on these scenarios in your own cultural context: Can you recall a situation where the goal of a relationship served multiple purposes? 📖 Explore more about the intricacies of 'Purpose' in global work relationships in “Forging Bonds in a Global Workforce”. Gain insights into navigating and understanding diverse motives in relationship-building. https://bit.ly/3OTrre0 #GlobalWorkforce #CulturalIntelligence #RelationshipBuilding #ProfessionalDevelopment #BookRecommendation
