At GitHub Universe 2024, GitHub announced that India now has over 17 million developers on its platform, marking a 28% rise this year. India is the fastest-growing developer community globally, with contributions to generative AI projects up 79% from last year, ranking it third behind the US and Hong Kong. According to GitHub’s Octoverse report, India ranks second in GitHub Education users and public contributions, driven by initiatives like ERPNext and Open Healthcare Network, showcasing India's dedication to open-source solutions. GitHub's partnerships, such as the first Center of Excellence in Bangalore with Infosys, highlight its commitment to supporting Indian developers. CEO Thomas Dohmke celebrated India's momentum, noting, “India’s rise as a global tech titan is now inexorable.” GitHub projects that India will surpass the US as the largest developer community by 2028.
